Default Can PT generate LTC with a Unitor 8?

I need to make PT a code-only master but don't have access to a USD. I've used a Unitor 8 mkII as a generic MTC reader (using the Unitor's LTC In) before and it worked brilliantly.

Can I use one to generate time code when PT is online? I noticed a "Use Peripheral" checkbox in the session setup window under the "generate" heading.

It doesn't seem so, which is too bad as USDs are expensive and I have to keep renting them. Is there a non-Digidesign product that'll accept control from PT for generating TC?

Motu; MTP-AV

JL Cooper PPS2+, but it's LTC out is 2 frames out of sync, so forget that one.

SSL, smpte slave driver.
Oh sorry, that's a digi-product.

But,
Why not put protools online and use an external TC source also feeding the unit you intended to want to feed the LTC?

The USD is the only device that I am aware of that can generate live TC during playback.

One little trick to get around it is to get a friend with a USD to generate an audio file of timecode from a known start point at the correct sample rate. Import this into your session, spot it to the right place and send it out a discrete output.

This wastes a track of course but solves your problem.

Do you mean a third TC source that masters PT AND the GML automation (that's what I needed to send to)? Interesting idea, but it would have to have some kind of machine control.

Tweakhead: I think you're right about the USD. I have to get one. Unfortunately we couldn't give up a track (and output, really) although striping was the first thing we thought of. Oh well. Anyone got a used USD for sale?

Baixo,

Yes that was my idea, but not very practical for a gml autom., than you need a machine control.
The MTP av does output LTC but it takes a while to lock, about 5 to 7 sec's and that's far too long i think. Unless you feed it a video sync input.

But, why not buy a second hand SSD
smpte slave driver.
That will work.

No...the SSD WILL NOT work.

It does not have the capability to generate TC locked to the playback of ProTools.

Sure, it can generate code but not in sync with ProTools playback.

I think i did.
I had a MTPAV and a SSD for comparison in my studio.
The SSD was not capable of reading TC jumps; ie non-continiuos TC, so that's why i choose for the MTP-AV.
I did checked the LTC output of the SSD if it was correct (the experience of the PPS2+ in mind...)
so
it does.
You have to put PT online though, but pressing play will output LTC drom the session then.
Or am i wrong here?

MTP A/V will do it. You have to put PT online and then control it from Clockworks (software that comes with the MTP). MTP spits out TC and PT follows along. It's not that bad, and it's lots cheaper than a USD. MTP's biggest problem is that it won't lock to an external word clock. Just blackburst.

Too bad the Unitor's SW doesn't "lock" to outgoing MTC. It's so simple, isn't it?

Well, I'm savin' for a used USD.
