Craig, can you break that down with a little more detail? I'm just curious how those big setups work.

It's 192 mono tracks. For those of us who work with stereo tracks it's only 96. If you are recording down to six 5.1 stems, you've already lost 18 of those, so the actual tracks available are then down to 78 tracks.

You can easily play more than 192 audio tracks, they just can't play at the same time, you have to VOICE SHARE.

So, if you have one track that is nothing but a single door close 2 min in, and then there is another track that has nothing but a thunder clap at 5 min in, you can assign those elements to the same voice. Trim each region so that it encompasses the audio (no blank audio extending needlessly before or after each element).

Now, in the EDIT page, at the head of the 2 tracks, under the name, click on DYN. instead of DYN, which is automatic and limited to 192 voices, assign both of the tracks to, say, "voice A1". Now your elements can still be on separate tracks, or channel strips for processing, but you now have the equivalent of 193 "tracks" playing back.

I had to do this on a massive Hip Hop track that had tons of stereo tracks. I assigned vocal tracks to voice sharing. For instance, one track had nothing on it but Verse 1 vocals, and another had only vocals in the end vamp etc etc. I assigned a few tracks to voice share and I got the equivalent of 198 tracks.

So you can have way more than 192 elements, as long as they don't overlap. But you still have separate mixer channels for processing, so it can seem like a lot more than 192 tracks. Might not work in your instance, depending on how dense your tracks are.

as I understand the room:
1 for Production Dialog
1 for ADR
1 for PFX
1 for Music
2 for Backgrounds
1 for Foley
1 for cut Effects
1 for rerecording the stems and full mix

Scott and Frank don't get into the details of setup but you can see the size of there rig

Absolutely brilliant idea!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
This will work very well for me as I've got a number of tracks assigned to each separate scene. So I can have scene 1,3,5,7,9 etc using one set of voices, and scenes 2,4,6,8.10 etc using he other.

Thanks mate, you have saved the day!
Awesome idea :)
All the very best to you, Markus.

Nice analogue tape joke.
All the best, Markus.
Hi,

Its still 192 audio voices!!

Have you looked at plugin automation snapshots? might save a few channels of dialogue! but looking at what you do its definitely going to be 2 rigs synced together.

I would try asking in the post and surround forum... http://duc.avid.com/forumdisplay.php?f=8

Thanks for the automation tip. I've been doing that the long way, I didn't realize one could copy everything at once!! Great tip, thanks.
Markus :)
