I have had the same problems with desisions since I started this escpade! The conclusion I have come to is "Different stroke for different folks!"

Every hard disk manufacturer has had a problem at one time or another! In the end I chose Seagate because that brand had the most consenses as to suitability for audio.

If your having trouble making up your mind go to www.computers4sure.com and they will lay out all the specs. for you. That way you can compare apples to apples (no pun intended).

Besides the Seagate Baracuda 30 gig 7200 fast IDE is priced the same as Western Digital and Maxtor. If you're a Mac user, you may just want to go with the Seagate anyway because it will have less compatibility issues with the G3/G4.

I'm fond of IBM Desktstars myself. Quiet, fast and reliable. Excellent drive.

Axeslinger,
Don't let your Mac service center B.S. you. This is a cheap (their cost) plastic part that breaks in-between the external power button and the actual switch-there's nothing wrong with the switch itself. It's a 15 minute replacement time (tops) and by now no reputable Mac service center has any excuse to not have a boxload of these in stock. Should be a walk-in and leave with it (insist, your under warranty!--I hope) I've gone through two of these in the past year on my iMac DV and now use ONLY the keyboard switch.

I have had great luck with my Maxtor 30 GB 7200 drives. One is in my G4 and the other is backup in a Pyro firewire kit.
