Default Pro Tools 8 LE Windows 7 Sony Vaio (SANDRA)

I posted my Sandra report before, but i have a more specific question. I was told to get the external HD for my laptop at OWC so Im going to do that and my laptop now, has a 4-pin firewire connection. Im planning on going with this selection:

750GB OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro 7200RPM Oxford 934 FireWire 400 & USB2 External Complete Solution

and a 6-pin to 4-pin cable to plug into my laptop.

However someone suggested to me I buy this also

SIIG FireWire 2-Port ExpressCard

I was just wondering, since i already have a 4-pin connection, is it necessary to buy the express card, and if 750GB external HD is too much. Any info is appreciated thank you

4 pin firewire should work fine (should ! ) If the Sony chipset doesn't like Pro Tools then plan B would be to buy the SIIG card. What's your audio interface? (firewire/USB?)

I think the SIIG fw card is probably a wise investment anyway.
Why wasn't your external hooked up when you ran the Sandra? it should be.
Also a good idea to disable wireless when running PT.
if you were trying to operate without a secondary drive, that's a problem. No mention of the nature of any problems in your original post, though.....

yeah sorry about that, i was having problems with the HW Buffer size needing to be increased but someone recommended turning off the wireless while i use PT and i did that and the HW Buffer size error doesnt really appear anymore. however i was wondering if getting a external hd would help that for good.

I dont own a external HD for my laptop yet, it has been recording without stopping since i turned off the wireless so i havent been in any rush to buy it. However Ive been recording more and was just wondering why things were needed.

thanks again guys for the responses i really appreciate it
