Default Just WUP\'d and got $200 of free plugins !!

My Platinum TDM WUP ran out yesterday so signed up for the 1 year WUP (did a 2 year plan back in 2006) for $200. Then got an email from Waves that I have $200 toward new plugins or upgrades. Talked to my local distributor and yes its true....

Thank you Waves

I bought the Mercury bundle back in december, and thus got the new Fairchild and Pultec for free. Good deal.

I sold all my Waves plugs a while ago and bought Sonnox instead. Good deal.

Are you guys going to say seriously that Sonnex plugs give you the same creative mixing options as Waves API, SSL, and V Plugs?

Sonnex are good plugs for specific things, but really, come on?

Please!

Each to their own....

I prefer the sound of Waves plug-ins, that is the main criteria for me.

Hi,

Look in to Sonnox (sony) if you want, but what you'll find is a $100 charge for each plugin you want to sell plus the $25 ilok fee. $125 to sell something you BOUGHT, and they ain't cheap plugs either.

Also an upgrade fee when apple and pro tools move up an OS. $25 x 6 plugs that was $150 for me. and if you are not the registered owner of the plugs (bought on ebay etc) then you have to pay a fee to re-register them!!! $50 per plug plus the $25 upgrade fee!! $75 to pay with no performance gain or any new features.

Sonnox v Waves??? Waves every time, their WUP fee's are quite low these days and you get that amount to spend on future purchases! or buy a new plugin and that goes towards your wup etc, so no dead money!! just new features and new plugins and a future proof purchase.

Waves regularly give their bundle owners new plugins

When was the last time Sonnx (Sony) gave you anything for free.

Sonnox ARE the new, OLD Waves

Chris

It's far and away my main criteria as well, and the main reason I've stopped using Waves. Not intentionally - just ended up phasing them out. I've found better plugins in EVERY category.

To answer your question: certainly no one would think that Sonnox makes as many plugins as Waves, but does that have any kind of relevance whatsoever? The point is quality, wouldn't you agree? Sonnox sits high on that hill. Waves makes some good plugins, some mediocre, some bad. I can't say the same for Sonnonx. Quality vs. quantity. I'd take just about any Sonnox over its Waves equivalent, unless you're referring to specific-use plugins for which Sonnox doesn't have a product.
