Default Legacy D/A card in new Avid interfaces?

Can the A/D and D/A expansion cards from Digi 192s be used in the newer Avid interfaces? They new ones seem awfully similar.

If not, why not?

I saw something somewhere that said they are not compatible. Something about the internal pin-outs and voltages?

It is stated in the HD IO manual that they can not be used.

I saw that but as we know sometimes "not compatible" actually means "works but not supported."

And if it doesn't work I'm curious why not. Pins look the same to me. Voltage maybe?
