Default Easier "MIDI Learn" functionality for PT11? Please?

Long time PT user. Love it.

One gripe: a lack of an easy to use MIDI learn function (ala Ableton) for generic controls in Pro Tools (faders, panning, transport) for generic MIDI devices (Edirol, etc...).

Honestly.

I just set up some controls for my singer songwriter buddy in his home studio setup on his Edirol PCR500 using the JL Cooper CS-10 map (after searching for and downloading the legacy peripheral file and accompanying guide to using them, and then reverse engineering the midi functionality and remapping his keyboard). Kindly, it wasn't the simplest of tasks...

Finally, all working, he checked it out and asked if perhaps he could set his button row A for solos and row B for mutes. I had to say no. I couldn't think of a way to make it work in pro tools.

All the while, I'm thinking, why, AVID (and Digi)?

So, has anyone heard anything about this for PT11? Can we please finally enjoy this simple functionality the likes of Ableton (and Logic, and Sonar, and Reason, and......)?

Or perhaps I'm a big idiot and completely missed something along the way?

Nothing has been said about this so I am guessing the chances are not good.

With the time taken to 're-write' the code for a 64Bit application, I'll be very disappointed if Avid haven't taken the opportunity to pick the eyes out of other programs and included some useful features such as the one mentioned here.

Ideascale has proven to be an absolute waste of time IMHO. Having said that, I am upgrading to 11. I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised.

MIDI remains an important part of my workflow. I would be delighted to be able to abandon using other software and to use PT for everything.

However, as nothing has been mentioned regarding MIDI functionality enhancements in PT11, my expectations are low.

Maybe in the future, but I think it will alway be a low priority, as MIDI is of less importance the higher up the food chain you go (just hire in better musicians get them to play the part, and record it as audio), and Avid clearly focuses its development with the top of the food chain in mind, even though there are plenty of PT users who are lower down that food chain.

As an offshoot to this question, has anyone else gone through this as I have (setting up MIDI controls for said functions) in an easier or more intuitive or perhaps more open way? Any other peripheral profiles that work better or have more options? Maybe anyone come across a third party solution?

I just hate being limited by this...

Midi learn please??? I can't believe this is not in 11.

I have only just returned to Pro Tools for the first time since 2007 and have been using Reaper which is £40, it has way more of what I call basic features that Avid should have as standard.

Come on Avid sort it out

Unfortunately, only the AIR VI's have a MIDI learn feature. Some of the M-Audio keyboards can also map to plug-in parameters and other functions of PT.

MIDI learn for every function is something desperately needed in my opinion.

PT 11 addressed some major issues regarding audio. Hopefully, now that those features have been implemented, attention can be given to MIDI for future updates/upgrades.
