If you went to a cellular store and asked to see the new iPhone, and they said you have to pay $30 to see it, would you pay it or go somewhere else?

If you went to the grocery store and they told you there's an admission fee of $10 to come in and look around, would you pay it or go somewhere else?

If a client called to discuss booking you for a session, would you charge them for the call?

Paying for a software is trial is no different.

It's important to stress here that Avid is NOT asking anyone to pay for a demo. They DO offer a 30-day evaluation period. My inquiry here was just because at this point the download page still lists 11 and 11|HD, not 12, that's all. I'm sure once Avid catches up with providing licenses to all the people who've paid for 12 they'll get around to updating the site.

While I understand your position, I don't think it has very much weight.....

It is the way the game is played, it is the norm for Avid and there is no way around it.

What could be worse than this is if the ilok was exclusively related to Avid, but it is not. Many other companies utilize the tool, and it should have some value in the 2nd hand market should you decide to pass on PT12 after the demo expires

Exactly.
He already has an iLok so why not try the rental route for PT12? Or even the free PT First? Like I said I don't think Avid will ever do a free demo and if they did it would probably be severely time and function limited.

I completely agree that having to pay for a demo is ridiculous, I also know that this is what avid is all about... but there is NO option for a monthly HD rental and I will not spent $599 for an upgrade that has basically no new features especially when I just purchased a brand new full 11HD license less than a year ago...

so if we can't get a free trial at least give us a monthly option for HD.
Is this really so much to ask for?

If 12 indeed fixed the threading issues than it'll be worth the $599 but if it didn't I'll move back to Nuendo and I want to see it first hand on my system.

Just to be clear. I know of no CPU threading changes. Nor has Avid offered any information on such.
