2x 1622 interfaces connected with Y-Cable to a single MIXFARM card? Is it possible ?
Hi,
since i need to take 2x 1622 interfaces to hook my synths into my protools mix3 system, i ask if it's possible to put 2x 1622 interfaces to the same 2nd mixfarm of my system using a Y-Cable . My mixcore and my 1st mixfarm are already fully connected to 2 adatbridges24+4x 24 bit RME converters. I reaplced my digital desk, and now protools is the center of my studio. That's the reason why i need so many inputs... Please let me know if i can connect 2x 1622 interfaces to the same mixfarm card using a Y-Cable. Thanks in advance regards ste |

Quote:
Each farm can only handle 16 i/o. You need one farm for every 1622. Sorry. |

Re: 2x 1622 interfaces connected with Y-Cable to a single MIXFARM card? Is it possible ?
Hi Jan,
thank you for your answer. Are you *REALLY* sure that it can't be done ? the 1622 has 16 inputs but only 2 outputs, so perhaps it generates LESS traffic (since it's 20 bit) than 8 I/O of an 888/24 for example : 8 in + 8 out is equal to 16 IN . 8 in + 8 out at 24 bit generates MUCH MORE traffic than 16 inputs (20 bit)+2 outputs (24 bit), if you do some math... I ask just because i see from my I/O setup inside my protools software that have connected 1622 to port A. Please could a Digidesign Technician confirm this definitely? regards ste |

Ok, i think that we're all *REALLY* sure ....
To use all the inputs on a 1622 you'll need to connect 2 interface leads to it. A mix farm can support a maximum of 2 interface leads .... I'm afraid your a (d24 / mixcore /mixfarm) short of a studio ....... |

ok,
thank you very much for your support. I need to add another mixfarm then (i don't like to add a mixI/O only). regards ste |

Actually.. sort of along these lines, I'm wondering if anyone knows the maximum cable length for Legacy interface cables.. (between Mix core and 888/24)
Any clues? all I can find is info on the digilink cable. thanks! |

Re: 2x 1622 interfaces connected with Y-Cable to a single MIXFARM card? Is it possible ?
Actually, I beleive you're wrong about the mix card with two 1622's. One 1622 only requires one cable in order to use all 16 inputs! Having said this the cable is a special cable that only the 1622 uses. In terms of bandwith the 1622 does use allot less than the ADAT bridge or 888 24, since it only has 2 outs and it's 20 bit. I would bet that your system would work with 2 1622's and a Y cable because in order to use and ADAT bridge with all it's ins and outs functioning you have to use both ports A & B on your card. Each port is capable of passing 18 channels of 24bit audio. I would try it, and if it doesn't work just return the Y cable. What have you got to loose?

Re: 2x 1622 interfaces connected with Y-Cable to a single MIXFARM card? Is it possible ?
Ideas of how much bandwidth is required for the 16 ins and only 2 outs aside, you can NOT connect the 1622 with a Y-cable. Plain and Simple. Don't waste your time trying it. If you choose the 1622 as the interface in the hardware setup, you will NOT have the option of switching to the "B" port. As noted by another poster, the 1622 does have a special cable, unlike the adatbridge that has 2 interface connection ports. The reason the Adatbridge has 2 connections is because it was initially usable back when DSP Farms (vintage) were current and they only supported 8 channels of I/O. That way you could connect each port to a seperate farm card.
By the way, the maximum cable length of legacy interface cables is 12'. No longer, no shorter, no choice. The part number for an interface cable (1622 excluded) is AC010 at any digidesign dealer. |

Amazing what kind of rubbish is sneaking in to the DUC forums these days!
Monumental: you haven't got a clue whatsoever, so don't speak your mind. One 1622=one mix card. End of line. Stop this thread now! |
