Default Gating question....

Here is the deal. I have 2 sounds - one I want to duck, and the other I want to cut out when triggered by a bussed sound, easy enough. Bussed out the sound, set up the gates, got one to cut the way I want (with the bass kick)!! The other I want to work opposite of the first gate, instead of having the gate shaping my sound to the kick, I want it to duck then the kick hits, and play normal when it doesn't, so far I can only get it to open when the kick hits, and duck when between hits. Can someone help??

Try a comressor.

A sidechained gate should open when it recieves the sidechain sound,
and a compressor should close or at least duck when it recieves the sidechain sound.

You might want to make separate tracks with the sidechained sounds, with the output set to the sidechain bus. This lets you nudge the regions back a few ms to fine tune how the gate/compressor reacts.
