Default MIDI Pencil Note Question

I'm building an EZ Drummer track and freehanding MIDI strikes. I go to bar 7/1 to add a crash. When I do, PT8 automatically adds the same crash to bar 6/1. Everytime I go to erase the 6/1 strike it erases the one I want on 7/1. WTF?!!! Is there some setting I have inadvertently enabled? Or is this a bug?

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Total session killer. Let me know if I'm doing sumpin' stoopid or if it's a known bug.

Are you adding notes on top of a looped region maybe?

I could be, Slim. I'm basically droppin' in grooves/loops from EZD and then sculpting -- remove a hi-hat strike and add a crash, etc. Is that where the misstep is? It seems weird that it wouldn't allow me to edit without duplicating the edit to the previous bar.

Does this help in the diagnosis? If so, what are my options? Thanks for the insight. I don't mean to be thick.

MIDI Regions named the same? Is Mirrored MIDI Editing enabled?

Filo,
The regions are all tagged w/ EZ's shorthand names. And I've got quite a few with the same name, but they're all individual loops. The mirror editing sounds like a likely culprit. How would I know if the mirror editing is enabled? Let me know if you get a chance.

Mirrored MIDI Editing is only applied to MIDI Regions with the same Region Name.

Mirrored MIDI Editing button

This is by the way covered in the Pro Tools 8 Reference Guide.

Then I'm at a loss. I don't understand why it would make the identical edit -- on bar 6/1 that I'm trying to make to 7/1. I'll keep looking at that section. D@mn, I was making some good progress before this hiccup. Oh well. I'll keep at it and see what I can figure out. Thanks again.

Have you a cs update installed?

Also can you try these please.

Delete Pro Tools preferences.
-Go to Users > “your user name” > Library > Preferences
-Delete 'com.digidesign.protoolsLE.plist', 'DAE Prefs' (folder), 'DigiSetup.OSX' and 'Pro Tools preferences'.
-Empty trash, then restart the computer.

Repair Permissions
-Quit Pro Tools and launch Apple's "Disk Utility" application, located in:

MacHD>Applications & Utilities.

-Select your boot drive (the whole drive, not the volume underneath the drive)
-Go to the 'First Aid' tab and select "Repair Disk Permissions"

Filo,
I have the latest cs update. I'll trash my preferences and do my repairs tomorrow. Thanks again.

Filo,
Followed your directions on the trash my preference -- I usually do this, but I've never added that repair permissions step in Disk Utility -- worked like a charm and I'm running smooth. EZD bugs out every now and again, but so far, so stable. Thanks again, sir.
