Default (-1166) Firmware issue Mac Pro / Native PCIe

I'm running 10.8.5 on a Dual 2.8GHz quad core 2008 Mac Pro with 4 Gigs Ram.

What I've tried so far..

- Repeatedly opening Pro Tools and retrying the firmware update.

- Moving the Native Card from slot 1 to slot 4.

- uninstalling Pro Tools 10, doing the firmware updater, reinstalling pro tools 10

- doing the same as above but with pro tools 11.

- Physically resetting the Native Card by pushing the button on the card, waiting 5 seconds, then pushing the button again.. then reseting the computer, then reopening Pro Tools.

After each and every attempt it still gives me the "An Unexpected Error occured while transmitting a firmware image. Error while writing the image to the card. (-1166)

I know the card is good because I tested it in another Mac Pro before purchasing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Native card is in the 2nd slot down from the top. I originally moved it because I couldn't do the firmware update on the card. When I moved it, I could do the firmware update, and I just left it there because everything was working fine.

So you might try that as well.

Hi,

I had the same problem.
The only way to do it on a Mac was with OSX.6, which we didn't have .
In the end, we ended up having to do the update on a PC, first installing PT 10 on the machine, and running as an administrator.
Then it worked.
I have blocked out all of the details.

Ok.. So if I can get my hands on OSX 10.6 then I'm good. Thats much more likely then finding a PC to do it on.

User, nst7, what OS are you running? I originally had the card in slot 1, then moved it to slot 4. I'll try slot 3 as well just to see what happens.

Bookerv12, thanks for the heads up. That definitely helps point me in the right direction.

I got it working. Here is what I did.

I formatted the system drive, which was running 10.8, and loaded in the Snow Leopard OSX install disc (its also available in the Apple App Store for $20 if you don't have the install CD). Installed 10.6, then via Apples website downloaded all of the 10.6.x updates, up to 10.6.7.

I then Installed Pro Tools 10 (non HD)

Pro Tools did its typical 'Need to Flash the Firmware.. yadda yadda yadda' and after 9 HOURS of a spinning wheel of death... TAH DAH! It works!

I'm running pro tools 10 (non HD) with a Native Card and a Digi 192 on a Mac Pro dual Quad Core bad mamma jamma. And I'm stoked =]

Just wanted to give an update to anybody else in that situation.

How can you run Pro Tools 10 non HD with an HD Native card?, only the HD version can see and use the HD boards and I/O, it doesn't make sense.

I'm not sure where you got your information.. but I can access the Native Card and go into hardware setup and set all the inputs and outputs on the 192 just like in HD.

Works like a charm.. minus a few bells and whistles.

He's not the only one to confirm this. Someone else mentioned it as well, that HD Native hardware will work with the non-HD PT11 or 10 license. I assume that means they don't have the extra features. I don't know if this is something Avid overlooked, or if they changed it to be this way. If so, it opens up more possibilities for people to buy second hand HD Native hardware and use it with an existing non-HD license, if they don't need the extra software features.

Hmmmmm...
We tried getting that to work on a friend's machine and couldn't.
I'm glad you could.
That's pretty bad mamma jamma!
