Can I record audio tracks live while midi playback is on?
Hi, I'm sure I miss some basic action here, since I always work in midi and never record audio.
I created a midi session in PT8, everything fine with my midi rtas. Then I plugged an external synth (MicroKorg) in my Mbox2Pro (Line in 1 L/R). Then I created a stereo audio track in my session.: in order to hear the synth I must choose the Spdif in on the Audio Mix, and this seems strange to me but ok. Then, if I playback the midi parts I cannot hear the synth. When I stop the playback I can hear the synth again. What have I got to do in order to hear the midi parts so that I can record the parts I play live on the synth? Thanks!! |

Re: Can I record audio tracks live while midi playback is on?
I'm confused. Is the output of the external synth analog or SPDIF? I would assume its analog on quarter inch plugs so I am baffled as to why you would need to select SPDIF. I would think that patching the external synth into a pair of line/DI inputs would allow you to hear the synth with the track record-enabled. If that works, but you can't hear when you start recording, then you maybe have Input Only monitoring selected(easy mistake). Alt-k will toggle that selection on Windows so maybe Option-K for Macs?

Thanks very much for your post. 1. I took the line out signal from my MicroKorg synth. It's analog from quarter inch, so I'm reallt baffled too. I can hear/see the signal only if I select the spdif! Is there some selector on my Mbox Pro I should check? 2. The suggestion with Input Only Monitoring worked, thank you very much! Now I still have to fix this weird spdif issue... |

maybe check your I/O window, could simply be mislabelled or something?
