pro tools has stopped working

Pro tools won't start. It says "a problem has caused the application to stop working. Windows will notify you if there is a solution." Then, nothing. Everything else on my computer is functioning properly. I'm at a loss. Bad times.

Do system restore...see if that gets u back running; maybe u installed somethin new or change somethin somewhere so that should get u fixed it(if u have some restore points)

Yes that, or if you keep a current system drive image, now might be the time to use it.

No, its not a fresh install it had been working just fine for a couple of months now. I haven't added anything or adjusted anything on hardware or software. I did a system refresh, i've restarted the computer a hundred times, but the same thing keeps happening.

I've been using the mbox2 mini on my dell for a couple of months now, with no problems whatsoever, and all of a sudden last night it tells me "the pro tools application has stopped working. Windows will close the program and notify you if there is a solution to the problem." Then, nothing. I've restarted the computer a hundred times and done a system refresh, to no avail. I haven't made any adjustments to my setup, whether it be hardware or software, so I have no idea what's going on.

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, and please take no offense, but you must have done something for this to have happened. Software (even as finicky as Pro Tools) doesn't just "break" on it's own. Something has to have changed on your system to have caused this.

Are there any external hard drives hooked up? Unhook 'em
Do you have Windows set to "Automatically Update"? (this is a big one) You should definitely turn that off.
Any other software set to automatically update? (iTunes, Adobe, etc)

Is "System restore" your only source of a system backup? If so, your only recourse might be to completely uninstall and re-install, possibly even down to the operating system level. Otherwise, restore a system drive image from before the problem. If you still have the problem after loading the backup, then that would point to a hardware issue of some kind.

You're also really not giving us a whole lot of details here. Please follow and read the link that SW_rec has given you (http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=133039) and post your details as instructed (in red) there.

Posting a plugin list with the Tech Support Utility would be helpful as well.
