I just wanted to add to this - the 'law' is actually several of which we tend to lean on the conservative side for some very good reasons, one of them being that being liberal with it can result in unintentional lost revenue (and NOT from lack of selling the updates) and procedural accounting issues that end up taking a lot of time and can have negative impact on many aspects of the business.

The 'what am I, a doctor?' statement is spot on - someone would really need a legal degree in accounting to fully understand the implications of these laws. I've tried explaining some of it over the years, because this question comes up quite often, but it never seems to 'take' - mainly because none of us on the DUC have enough of an understanding of it to explain the intricacies effectively.

In any case - we always try to cram enough into a paid update to make it worthwhile!

What is the mimimum amount that an update needs to sell for so that Avid is safe.

eg could the update sell for US 1 cent?

Yeah, this page was set up by Avid, but we have our own Eleven Rack section, which is monitored by the guitar team.

Thanks guys for the update...in regard to the paid vs free update issue...it boils down to whether you want/need the update...in the pedal world if I want it I buy it...comparisons to the other 2K device...well apples and aardvarks (I'm glad I have spell check)...the Eleven Rack is an amazing device...the ability to roll back your volume knob and still have great tone...is well....great....I have tried all the modeling stuff...I actually had a Rockman X-100 (I think that was the name...looked like a plunger for blasting dynamite.....1985 I believe...but I digress....thanks Chimp for keeping at it...BTW...I hope Avid is marketing church musicians...with the Eleven....it is a ready market....

the updater tells me I don't have the eleven rack driver (windows 7) but I do have them installed as I'm using with pro tools...
