I'm definitely ignorant of the laws governing this type of business, but can you explain why this is the case? Line 6 and Fractal don't charge for introducing an enormous array of new effects and amps to their products. Line 6 gave away TONS of new effects in their last (free) M13/9 update, and obviously Fractal has been doing it for years. (Or did you mean "law" metaphorically?)

Not to argue, but if I paid $2500 for the Fractal, I would be a little pissed off at a charge update. At under $900 for the modeling as well as a Pro Tools interface with the software, the Eleven Rack deal is quite a good deal.

Also, many major software manufacturer's charge for major upgrades. Sibelius 4-5-6 was a paid deal each time. Reason 4-5 will be a paid update. It is quite common. If you owned the previous version you get a special upgrade price.... that seems fairly fair :0)...as long as they don't ream you.

The small nature of Fractal is ultimately what scared me away from buying one of their units. If the head guy is involved in an accident, abducted by aliens, etc., then what happens to all that great support? I've had too many unfortunate experiences with small companies which made great products but went away due to a number of challenges a larger company doesn't face. So, while some bemoan the slow nature of releases (and potential charges for major upgrades) which accompany a product made by a large company, I consider those small tradeoffs for knowing the company is going to be there when I wake up tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm not saying 11r isn't a great deal... it is. For the record, Axefx's are $1500 and $2000 now. I changed to the Axefx and I, for one, am really happy with it (and all of the stuff it does, together with the third party cab/mic capabilities). I did enjoy the 11r, though.

Is is OK to update my 11R if I am using PTLE 8.0.1? I read through the 1.0.3 firmware update notes, but didn't see anything regarding this. Until I can replace my lowly PowerPC Mac, I'm stuck with PTLE 8.0.1.

We will also be releasing a version for Win7-64-bit shortly. For those on that platform, you can use the 32-bit version for now. Just be aware that the 'Update' button will look grayed out and the device will appear to be offline...just hit 'Update' anyway and it will work fine.

Yes, the firmware updater should run just fine on the PowerPC. Pro Tools 8.0.1 should also run just fine with the 1.0.3 firmware.

I wanted to take a second and say thanks! I've had the ER now for several months, and continue to love it's quality, tone shaping, ease of use. I play in a Praise and Worship band and use it live every Sunday. While I love my tube amps and pedals, the ER works better in my current gig environment without sacrificing tone.

Thanks for the recent updates - the tuner is now usable! Keep up the great work and thanks for your responsiveness in this forum!
