Default OMNI Mixer Headphones

I've had an HDN system for years but never really used the card--too much trouble to move an HD I/O from the truck to the house, and monitoring with an HD I/O suddenly becomes a nightmare compared to the 002R I used under FW400.

I've been recording more at the house, so I finally took the plunge and bought an Omni. Here's just a little RTFM encouragement for any newcomers to the box like I was/am. On the Mixer tab in Hardware Setup HP stands for HeadPhones, not High Pass. Says so right there on page 37, but took me well over an hour to figure out why I could hear iTunes on the monitors but not the phones.

Onward and upward.

Oh, and one more slightly related note. On page 13 the Omni Guide says:

Either set of Optical I/O ports can also be used for two-channel Optical S/PDIF input and output

I'm wondering if that's true. I hooked up the MacPro optical out to the A input, works fine. But hooked up to the B input, nothing, and no way that I can discover to switch between the two.

I think an omni only has one Adat in.

Manual says Port B is unused for input.
However on output it mirrors port A (channels 1-8).

The presence of the second set of optical ports is explained by the fact that the box supports the S/MUX2 and S/MUX4 protocols for higher sample rate ADAT I/O. At the base rate only the first input port is active, and the same signal appears on both output ports--this is what Christian is referring to. At twice base rate S/MUX 2 supports four channels of I/O on each port, and at four times base rate S/MUX4 supports two channels of I/O on each port.

If, however, you set the Digital 1-2 Input Format to Optical (S/PDIF) on the Main tab of the Hardware setup page, you lock out all of the ADAT I/O to the eight input/output paths. As I said above, right there on page 13 the Guide says that either set of ports can be used for two channel optical S/PDIF I/O. In real life, however, Port B seems to be locked out.

I think it's a typo in the Guide. Do I get a cookie for finding it?
