So stop paying your yearly fees then problem solved, if you have a perp lic it will keep working.... and when something comes out in PT that appeals to you update then...

I really like Pro Tools and I was ok at $99, but at $199 per year not so much in my opinion.
Also with other companies, you see what new features are in an upgrade, and then decide if you want to pay or not. Not so with Avid.........

Default Re: ProTools price adjustments from July 1st.

I've been an avid fan (seewhatIdidthere?) of Pro Tools, user since 2011. In 8 years, tons of stuff has changed and made my experience much better than those first 5... but I will admit, I am scratching my head a bit since PT 12. I'm not really a power user, so all these "HD freebies" aren't registering... what I look at are the frequency of updates to the core software, or any plug ins. Which, it appears, plugins (though there are a lot of free ones) are mostly useless and haven't had an update in 3 years.

Every July, I do ask myself what I am paying $198 for? In the grand scheme, it's not a ton of money - but I feel like I am "renting" it already :) However today I have flipped off the Auto Renew switch while I take some time to evaluate whether I agree with the most of the industry model.

Hey, if most of the industry jumped off a cliff, would you jump too? (hearing my mom's voice) Just be honest. Avid is a business. Their goal is profits. Subscriptions bring in more profits. You and I, home studio users A and B, matter not - but it's not Avid being a monster - it is the nature of a for-profit company to only give a s&*t about profit. This isn't some open-source gnu-bee lovin freebie software :)

So while I understand the model shift, I disagree with it... enough so to give up paying, keep my perpetual license, and look into alternatives that, for years now, have all become pretty inspiring.

Just my $0.02, fwiw (not even 2 cents these days )

I really wanted to love Pro Tools but Avid has made it difficult. I might consider coming back in the future is Avid is no longer in control of Pro Tools or something incredibly magical happens.

I wish everyone who is sticking with Pro Tools good luck. I'm sure Avid still has some surprises for you... and I don't mean good ones. It would be funny if Avid decides to bring the prices back down in 2-3 years, taking advantages of all of those who extended their license 2-3 years in advanced.

Peace and love!

Good for you man! Gutsy move! You let your wallet do the talking!

NOTHING.
you people need to download a trial an run it.
freaking impressive.
agreed.
Here's a test at 16!!!! samples, using instrument plugins that do not work below 128 buffer in Pro Tools, along with plugins like TG12345 that add too much latency to perform through in Pro Tools.

I was very very impressed. I was screencapturing at the same time, 1080p, 60fps CPU encoding as well. S1 is a ridiculous beast compared to the AAE. The audio glitches you hear are only due to screenrecording h264 CPU encoding AT THE SAME TIME!! And it's only a i7 6700k with 16GB RAM.

It wouldn't surprise me if Avid recant on the $199 pricing. They are surely loosing a lot of customers already.

Pretty unfair comparison as we all know Apple bought Logic to rip its tech to their FCP and to make it Mac-only as a perk to sell Macs to Logic users. They could even include it into their operating system and their bottom line would not get hurt as long as people keep buying Macs. With that said, Logic is a good MIDI sequencer and comes with Apogee HR22 dither, so as a one-time "plugin" cost it's good investment. But would I ever edit/mix audio in Logic? No. Not in a million years.

I wasn't affected by the price increase but it still hurt seeing loyal customers be treated like this. That's why I'm no longer a customer.

It baffles me that some people here are defending Avid. Regardless if you can afford the price or not, anyone and everyone should be supporting each other as a community.
