Default Re: Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?

The history of "trends" on the DUC:
2000-2004 Waves Reneisance EQ
2004-2006 Sony Oxford EQ
2006-2009 McDSP Filterbank
2009-2011 MDW EQ
2011-current Equality
2012 - Avid Channel strip
What's next?

Please don't take me serious either dates I wrote down (not sure about'em at all).
I am only serious about what I hear by my ears.
And the trends will go on.

What's the diff you hear or experience in using Equality vs EQ3? (I haven't used Equality).

I also went to equality a few years ago.
Most times I start with this or end this EQ.
Channes strip is indeed a good EQ but unfortunately the highpass is not so good

Not exactly what you want because this one has fixed frequencys.
Maybe you want to check out the maag EQ4. This one does nice things to the upper freq. It a sounding EQ but it sometimes helps me
It does rise clarity of vocal/voice tracks in a very nice way, especially if you rise airband at 20/40K and I also like the 2,5K band

I cannot hear the difference IMHO.
The main difference I guess is how you achieve what you want with these tools.

Default Why does EQ3 beat everything else in this respect?

I really like Metric Halo's channel strip. It's my go to Plugin. But when it comes to "transparent" EQ's like these, IMO they all get the job done. Character EQ's like pultec and SSL on the other hand are a different story.

I use the UAD pultecpro on my dialog. A cut at 2k and boost at 10k

Advantages:
1-up to 48dB per octave hi/low pass filters
2-6 bands 20-20K shelf/notch/peak
3-one of the best spectrum displays for dialog. Can instantly see a syllable that has to much of whatever in it.
4-The first EQ I've found that doesn't sound grainy gritty crappy in the high end when boosting.
5-Its Blue

Maybe the Digi EQ has a tighter default Q compared to EQuality so the perception out of the box is that the DIgi EQ is a good dialog tool. I tend to cut before I boost. I find that EQuality does less damage to the signal than the DigiEQ when cutting. I'm really picking with my tools and Equality never leaves me feeling I wish I had a better EQ.

Yes, EQ3 has a digital harshness in the highs to me as well when overdone. And yet, it has this nice open quality when you add just the right amount that i wasn't able to replicate well with other plug ins, or it took me much more time to get it there when the EQ3 could get it there very fast. Yet, i'm still looking for something else because i'd love to find something that could add the openness without the risk of harshness...

True of other plugs, too. Move mic & avoid EQ. Less is more ...

Yeah. In post there is no "move the mic" option.
