List of Rewire-compliant applications?
Since PT 6.1 will include Rewire support, it's important to find out which soft-synths and applications also support this. Before I start a time-consuming search, I thought I'd ask here first.
So, would you all please list any apps that you know are rewire compliant right now? also any that are soon to be rewire compliant. Feel free to also say what you like/dislike about any particular app . We all know that there's Reason and Ableton live. Others? BTW: Native Insts has announced full RTAS support by the end of July (yipppeee!) so I suppose rewire is a non-issue with them. |

Re: List of Rewire-compliant applications?
Well, Live will be as of 2.1, which is due for release any day now according to OSXaudio. And there's Logic, of course.

Re: List of Rewire-compliant applications?
Logic is a tough one to figure out. Will Logic now be portable INTO Protools via rewire, making the ESB bridge obsolete?

As for ESB, well if you update to 6.1 yes i think so. Actually i also believe that the new Logic ESB solution is based on ReWire anyway. |

While on this subject, will older rewire1-compliant apps work?

Re: List of Rewire-compliant applications?
Logic unfortunately has no Rewire outputs.

Re: List of Rewire-compliant applications?
Hello. I just wanted to add some information to what's already been said. Rewire compatible software can act as host, client or both. The names are fairly descriptive of their actions. Only one software can be host, with many clients. This means, in theory, that you can open Pro Tools as the host, and Rewire in 5 or 6 other software applications.
However, not all Rewire compliant applications act as both host and client. For most people's purposes, Reason and Live are the only two that fit the bill from that list on the link below. This means that you will basically only be able to use Reason and Live while inside of Pro Tools. That in itself is quite enough I suppose. The disappointment there however lies in the fact that Logic, Nuendo or Sonar, to name a few, won't be able to be used in this manner. They along with Pro Tools are hosts only, which means you can't open one and Rewire the others in. There is a large number of users who use Logic with Digidesign hardware. However in order to 'stream' audio back and forth you need to either have two cards, two systems or close one and then open the other. Rewire would have skipped this entire process and allow that large group of Logic users to open Logic inside of Pro Tools or viceversa. I am sure there is massive demand for this, as well as Sonar and Nuendo in smaller numbers. I was misinformed back at NAB that Pro Tools would be both host and client, which of course had major implications. Looking back on it, I should have known better; because if Digidesign would make Pro Tools a client under Rewire, this would mean you could open Pro Tools inside of some other Rewire host application. Which of course would mean it could be run under any other hardware in the market. And as we all know, Pro Tools only runs under Digidesign hardware. So it's a fairly good assumption to make that Pro Tools will not be a Rewire client any time soon. Only if and when Digidesign allows it to run under other hardware. However, for the time being it is not to be. Hopefully this situation can be remedied in the future. Maybe Emagic, Steinberg and/or Cakewalk can make their applications Rewire clients. They already allow their software to be opened by just about any hardware, so that's not a roadblock. However Emagic is Mac only and Cakewalk is PC only, so that could be a roadblock for them, maybe. Sorry if you guys already knew this, but it's pertinent information for those who were not aware. Here is a list from the Propellerheads website. It however doesn't notate which ones are both hosts and clients. As far as I know it's only Reason, Live and Cakewalk Project 5. Rewire list

-------------------- I believe in Rewire lingo a Mixer Application = HOST and Synth Application = CLIENT. The list shows that. Busch. |

Re: List of Rewire-compliant applications?
Well that sucks.
If Apple/Emagic were smart they would make Logic a Rewire client ASAP because Pro Tools users could easily spend $600 on Logic and get the most amazing AU host and midi compositional tool on the planet to work inside PT. $600 is what many PT users spend on few measly plugins alone!
