Can't Open Pro Tools First

I bought a 2007 iMac (specs below) off a coworker so I could run Pro Tools on a bigger display for my home studio. Downloaded an older version of Pro Tools First (whatever version was right before 12.8, not sure exactly). It ran fine.

Then I updated to 12.8 and now it simply won't start on my machine. The splash screen will load, but it will freeze halfway through and then when I right click the icon I get "application not responding." My system requirements check out, I'm running a 2nd gen MBox mini which is old but shouldn't prevent the app from at least opening right?

I can't update to OS Sierra but that shouldn't be a problem as the system req's list El Capitan as a compatible OS. Can anyone help? I want to get back to my sessions!!

Try holding down the N key while Pro Tools loads. This will force a hardware refresh, which will hopefully get you past the splash screen and will allow you to choose the playback engine settings.
