Default copying automation from one file to another

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to copy automation from one PT file to another?? I have a client who has done all sorts of volume automation to a few tracks, but now wants to work from an earlier mix that doesn't have it. Any advise is welcomed.

Cheers...

If you show the automation(like Volume) on both tracks, you should be able to copy from one, use the up/down key(P or :) and paste. Give it a try and if it doesn't work, just close the session and DO NOT save(or select File>Revert to Saved).

Files, not tracks. He has two PT files (projects).

Correct, it is from 2 different session files. If it were within the same session I'd be fine.

Import the track from the other session, then copy and paste. Delete the unneeded track.

Nope, that didn't do it. The automation did not follow.

Any other thoughts??

Cheers...

I saw a post from a few years ago aboot using COPY SPECIAL under the EDIT menu. It allowed me to copy, but when I closed that file and and went to the new one, the 'copy' went away. Seems like a perfect time to allow 2 PT sessions to be open at the same time, me thinks.

So... I think the easiest work around is to bounce the needed tracks. The bounced tracks will, in effect, have the automation since the volume boosts and cuts will be recorded. Once bounced I can import those tracks into the proper mix file.

Anyone agree??

Cheers...

What do you mean by automation didn't follow? Didn't import? Didn't paste?
