Why not, if everything else is running perfectly fine on 10.5.8?
10.6 is basically just a very poor and non optimized bugfix update to 10.5.

Lets call it 10.5.8 CS1 which runs slower than 10.5.8.

I know because I have a Macbook and iMac on Snow but the studio computer is still on 10.5.8 .

Pro Tools HD 8.1 supports the following operating systems:
Mac OS X 10.6.2, 10.6.3, and 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard)
Windows XP Service Pack 3 (Home or Professional, 32-bit)
Although not officially supported, Pro Tools HD 8.1 can be used on Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit) continuing the public beta program for HD systems.

My point exactly. Snow Leopard only.

I don't understand where you're getting this info from. You're comparing the speed of a Macbook to an 8 core 3.2? I think you'd see different "optimization" results for those computers.

Sorry for making this thread...
I thought you guys were a little more open minded here...

"Not Supporting 10.5.8" doesn´t equal to "not working" on 10.5.8.

Right now, I am pretty busy in the studio but later in September I will install 8.1 on 10.5.8 and report how everything´s going.

About my comparison, it was of course based on a Snow install on the same 8 core, but to be fair Snow and Leo gives you about exactly the same performance now but 10.6 and 10.6.1 had very poor graphic performance when benchmarking with Cinebench compared to 10.5 and no CPU boost. And because Snow and Leo is very similar there should be no reason why 8.1 shouldn´t run well on 10.5.8.

For a tool that makes a living, it's good to be close-minded and follow the instructions very carefully. Especially those that have been written in stone with very big letters, such as the OS environment. It should not be taken as a recommendation, but followed blindly.

So no, I would not even bother trying.

Hi,

Although its not supported apparently it can run on 10.5.8 as someone on the HEAT thread says he has it working!

Saying that your on dodgy ground with with program and plugin compatibility. as they would have been checked and bug fixed to run on 8.1 on snow and not 10.5.8

Clone your drive and have fun!! test HEAT and see how you like it!! but don't be surprised if you start seeing problems.

If it was fully supported then AviDigi would have made it available for 10.5.8

Were still on 10.5 something ot other here... So pt 8.04.

The only thing holding us back from an imediate update is WUP. We have the diamond v6, and need v7 to work on snow leopard.

It's fine, we'll pay in the next month, but I think that paid "upgrades" should actually come with some upgrades...

I have no problem with waves, and 200 is nothing, but I still think that we should still be able to operate v6 on any os within reason.... I mean, we aren't trying to run it on os9 or something...
