A plug-in? I think you're asking for something that doesn't exist.

If you're trying to generate SMPTE from Pro Tools, the only way to go is a MIDI interface that supports MTC to SMPTE generation.

Could you please elaborate? I have a MOTU MIDI Express XT that claims it "Converts MIDI Time Code to SMPTE time code ". I (or MOTU's tech support) have not been able to make this work. I only need to take MTC from tools and convert it to LTC SMPTE to drive a Neve fader automation system. No video or external MMC devices. Thanks for any help.

Actually, (not that this will do you any good!) Bob Lentini at SAW made a SMPTE MACHINE plugin, and it was frame accurate. EVERY TIME!!! BUT. And that's a BIG but. It was made specifically for SAW, and not a VST plug. But just so you know, it can be done.

Check M-audio for midi-smpte converters. Not mainstream anymore so you'll probably have to find one on Ebay.

SMPTE LTC is audio signal, right? Even if its ugly audio signal from a musical point of view, its still data that is possible to generate by a plugin. Maybe the DAC would cause lots of distortion when presented with such a signal, but theoretically it should work.

So to reiterate. Is there a plugin?

That guy is a mad genius. Too bad PT would not hire him to come in and fix Pro Tools. He probably wouldn't anyways, but wow. That man is a crazy genius.

Back on topic. Sorry about the hi jack.

Yeah, Lentini is a real GAs to talk to. Quite a mind at work there, huh???
If push comes to shove, you could get a SMPTE genererator and actually "stripe" an audio track just like we used to do on analog multitrack tape, output it to whatever you're using as a synchronizer, and let Pro Tools be the "master synce source."
But no. There is no existing "plugin."
