Default Digi 003 preamps to direct out?

Hi!

I'm planning to buy a better quality converter (apogee/rme...) and I want to use the digi003 preamps, but don't want use the digi003 converter.

Mi question is... Anybody knows if is there any way to have a true "direct out" of the digi003 to the Analog outputs without passing by the converter of the digi003?

Yes, I'd like using the 003 preamps, but use the new coverter to pass the analog signal of the preamps to digital signal.

Thanks in advance!
Quim

There is no way to do this with the 003. It will only pass audio to and from the computer.

But also, it would not make any sense to do that, as it would not be hard to find even an inexpensive multi channel preamp that would sound as good or better than the 003 ones.

And, if you are looking at Apogee or RME stuff, some of their stuff has preamps built in that are better than the 003 preamps.

Not only that, but by the time you add separate converters, with the expense of it, you may do just as well financially if you just bought a different and better 3rd party interface (assuming you have PT9 or 10).

I'm with nst7 here. Why not look into any of the 8 channel lightpipe preamps on the market. Almost any will sound as good, and many will be better. Anything that feeds the digital inputs of the 003 will bypass the onboard converters. The Focusrite Saffire LS56 is a good choice, both as expansion, or as a replacement for the 003. Some higher end choices would include the Apogee or Focusrite products(ISA-428 w/option card, ISA-828 or 4-710D). Maybe the real question is; what are you trying to achieve?
