If I understood correctly,

and if it's true that :
HDX and HDN share the same architecture,
and then no difference ,
no "dynamic" data reduction/compression,

The only limit is the Cpu power ,

and dsp cards are required only for large sessions with large number of tracks and plug ins ,

That a Daw with i7 processor cannot "manage" ?

Yes. The maximum i/o for HDN is 64 and if you need one more you need to have HDX.

And yes, "CPU+DSP>CPU", always. With that said, current computers have become so fast they run circles around my old HD3 TDM system. With this rather old late-2013 MBP, I can easily create bigger mixes than the HD3 ever could.

Which is why many guys that normally work with no large sessions,
sold cards , and got Native,
also for work on a laptop "everywhere"....

well the laptop and working everywhere is kind of limited, because once you start to use plugins, the laptop fan makes the experience... "limited"

if you can afford it, you really should buy an iTrashcan which is dead silent.
