Thumbs up New Venue / Pro Tools workflow!

Have seen it presented for the first time at the Plasa Show in London.
Goes like this - a new version of Pro Tools will have a new menu option when you first create your session, and that's Create session from Venue.
That will basically create a session to mirror the exact configuration your Venue session is set up to - same track names, stereo channels on Venue will be mirrored in Pro Tools, the Input and Output paths in Pro Tools will be taken care of automatically. Very cool and simple, with the push of a button now you can create a 96 tracks session in Pro Tools and you're ready to archive.

Even better, your snapshots will create markers while recording in Pro Tools and once you playback from Pro Tools during soundcheck, as soon as you move to any snapshot Pro Tools will jump audio to that marker automatically. So now you don't have to search your two hours recording to find that small portion you want to work on. If it's a snapshot, Pro Tools will playback from there.
Very good stuff! That's going to simplify our work a lot.
Good work Avid!

Yeah, now that PT 8.1 is out they're finally showing the Venue specific software that supports it. Been hard to keep quiet on this one because the cool factor is pretty amazing once you try it for yourself, unfortunately Intel machine only. Did they say when the new software was going to ship?

Or perhaps any news about new line of super-Venues that could rival the processing power of the new Digico-Waves systems?

"With the new DiGiCo SoundGrid module added to your SD9 console and linked to an external PC server, you’ll have instant access to up to 16 fully integrated low latency Waves stereo processor racks on the SD9, perfect for either front-of-house or monitors.Plus, once registered, you can use your TDM plugins collections too!"

This is a quote from the site. Without knocking anything I'm not seeing how this is a "rival." It's an external computer patched into the console (albiet digitally). Am I missing something?

not the sd9 rather then the ds7 with the performance and capabilities , and the price tag and some capabilities of the sd8.
with 32 aux option, plugins and a much more flexible fader layout its a really tuff competition.
they are going for better convertors 96/192khz rather then 48khz
the option to share stage box between monitors and foh etc
2 monitor buses
u can record and do virtual soundcheck on almost any software with rem madiface and so on,,,

but and its an important one avid have much much much better software to my taste then any console in the market and it can work with all plugins not just waves
and the profile is smaller and lighter then sd8/7

Is this in Pro Tools 8.1? Or is it coming in a future update? I'm trying to figure out if I want to upgrade to snow leopard on our soundcheck rig...

Donald :)

Yes, it's PT 8.1 only, Snow Leopard, Intel Mac. It is however, amazing and a joy to use.

So now I'm confused...

Is the VENUE functionality existent in 8.1, or is it a future software update that will enable such?

I thought the latter, but recent posts make it sound like the former...

Okay... So I partially answered my question.

I found that in 8.1 there is the VENUE function.

But when i go to the Periphs menu and try to have it connect, to import all the good info... I get nothing... It doesn't seem to want to work.

Dunno if it's the port setting or not. I'm going to keep digging though.

Does this get it's info through the ECx connection?

Can't seem to find anything on Avids website that details this info...
