Default Video (over approx. 20min length) out of sync?!

Hi all,

I recently encountered a strange problem,
We've upgraded all our ProTools systems to 8.0.3 (on 10.6.2).

And I have a few sessions with continuos video over 20mins. since the upgrade to snow, these sessions don't play in sync at all.

We've let the old 10.5.8 on a partition, and when I open these session in PT 8.0.1 everything is in sync and fine.

we don't have these problems with short clips, like 20-60sec commercials but everything over let's say 10-20min is definitely 2 or more frames off-sync.

what i already tried (on 2 computers):

- opened the sessions without plugins
- converted to various movie formats (mpeg4, DV, mpg etc... with different resolutions and bit-rates)
- checked/unchecked quicktime quality in PT Prefs.
- installed "old" QT7
- checked "open in 32bit mode" for QT X
- installed 8.0.3cs1...
- played around with DAE Buffer, DAE cache etc...
- thrashed prefs
- moved video to anorther partition, Harddisk

my configs:

System 1:

Mac Pro 2x2.3 Quad-Core, 6GB Ram, OS X 10.6.2
ProTools 8.0.3, 1x HD Core PCI + 3 HD Accel Cards in PCI Expansion Chassis + UAD Quattro, 2x 192 I/O + 96 I/O

System 2:

Mac Pro 2x2.3 Quad-Core, 6GB Ram, OS X 10.6.2
ProTools 8.0.3, 1x HD Core PCI + 96 I/O

any idea?

kind regards
kava

Does it start in sync and then drift out, or is it 2 frames off from the start?

thats hard to say, the whole playback looks quite off from the start.

i tried various spots in the session, sometimes the first seconds are in sync but after - let's say 3-5 sec - it's off.

i forgot to say, i'm running the video on a third monitor driven by a second Geforce GT 120.

Trim your system down to the bare essentials to run the session, omitting the GT 120, and see what happens. Sounds like latency in that card. Is the Video behind the audio?ff

I already have a session here with just the stereo-master of the program on a stereo track and the video track. no plugin, no automation etc..

tried it with the video in the main (first GT), second (first GT) and third monitor (second GT card). Video at normal size and fullscreen.
...and played around with resolutions on the third monitor - going down to 800*600 - with no luck at all...

and video is behind...

I just read a lot of posts here in the duc - seems I'm not the only one with 8.0.3 with these issues...?

Yes it does sound like a software/hardware compatibility issue if everything was peachy before the 8.0.3 change. good luck,, ff

ok, youve mentioned several video cards and monitor and all seems external.
have you tried watching the video in the same screen as PT?
open it up 1/4 size and watch it next to PT edit screen.

2 frames sounds like video lag from a video card or monitor.

do u have burnt in time code and thats how u can tell?

or when u whatch it u see (feel ) the 2 frames off?

cause that is weird.

i think the only think that changed in snow leopard is that quicktime can be opened in 32 bit or 64 bit. try hitting info on the quicktime icon (both quicktime X and quicktime in the utilities folder) and see if it reads "open in 32 bits". and click the opposite that what it is now.
just a hunch but who knows.
