Velvet takes a long time to change patches

Something has been bothering the heck out of me and I figured I'd ask the cognoscenti here: why, on a very competent system where every other vi changes patches instantly, does Velvet take upwards of 10 seconds to change patches? The only other one that takes a while on some patches is the Arturia Matrix12 synth.
