Default -6028/-6004/-9161 DAE Errors-HELP

Hallo,

Setup: G4/876, 1GB, OSX 10.2.6, ProTools HD2, 6.1

My ProTools runs very smooth unless I switch to these Playback Engine Modes:

32 Voices (2 DSPs)
64 Voices (2 DSPs)
96 Voices (2 DSPs)

Usually I get the -6028 DAE error which I never get when using the "1 DSPs" modes. I haven't checked the "3 DSPs" modes at this point.
Any idea ? Anyone else ?

Detlef.

I did more research and this is what I've found out:

the system works fine in the 1 DSPs Playback Engine Mode. As soon as I switch to any other mode (2, 3, 4 DSPs) I'll get the -6028 DAE Error. Digidesign....any idea ?

Am I the only one with this problem?

Hello,

It sounds like PT is losing communication with the interface/s. I would try reseating the cards, flex cable and interface cables and see if the problem persists.

Also, do you have any problems loading up both HD cards with plug-ins?
Do you have more than one interface connected to the system? If so, are they all loop sync'd together?

Hi,
thanx for the respond.

Only one 192 is connected to the first card. The system runs very smooth. Both cards pass DigiTest. I've checked the cards and cables more then one time.

I don't have any problems loading all DSPs on both cards. As I said before I only get this error (-6028) when switching to thw 2, 3 or 4 DSPs Playback Engine mode. I don't get the error immediately after switching. Sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 2 hours.

Hello,

What third party plug-ins are you running in the session?
Does the problem seem to be related to any particular plug-in?
Any other PCI cards in the system?
Is this happening in all of your sessions or just one?

Hi,
thank you so much for your support.

Usually I use Bombfactory (1176/LA2/Fairchild), McDSP (Filterbank/AnalogChannel), TCWorks (Chorus), Sony (EQ).
But even if there is no Plugin inserted I get the -6028 error.
No other PCI cards, just the HD2 system.
I Get this error with all sessions, new sessions and sessions from other people.

Maybe this is related...I don't know but when I load a session with some Plugins inserted I get a nasty digital sounding pop/click right after the sessions has been loaded. It's pretty loud and I have to turn down my speakers. Any idea?

Hello,

Have you tried moving the HD cards into different PCI slots?
Move the HD Core and HD Process cards into the two unused PCI slots in the G4.
If the problem persists I would then suspect a problem with the HD Process card.
When you allocate a DSP for voices it will move down to the next available card.
It sounds like either there is a problem with the PCI slot or the HD Process card itself.
Let me know what happens when you move the cards.

Hi,
I did more research, check this out:

I have a brand new 60 Track session (16 Bit/44.1 KHz), no Plugins, Playback Engine: 64 Tracks (2 DSPs).
It works fine so far. After 10 minutes I need more tracks so I switch the Playback Engine to 96 Tracks (3 DSPs). The session closes and I get the DAE error -6004 which tells me that ProTools just quited and wants me to restart the computer.
This is so strange. Could this be related to my -6028 error?

Puh....I'm gonna move the cards to PCI slot 3 and 4. Lets see if that will do any change. Talk to you later.

Okay,

I moved the two cards to slot 3 and 4 and ran DigiTest again...the cards passed. Checked all the cables again.

Opened my 60 Track...ops..I'm sorry, it has 43 Tracks, (16 Bit/44.1 KHz) session and switched to 48 tracks (3 DSPs) Playback Engine. ProTools crashed again and told me that it lost the connection to the hardware DAE error -6004.
I restarted the computer, launched ProTools (no session), it ran through the lauching routine and when it was almost done it crashed with with DAE error -6004. Wow...I got nervous at this point. I shut down the whole system including the 192 and started all over. Still...after ProTools had finished the lauching routine almost, it crashed with no warning or error message. Now I got really nervous. I deleted my DAE and DigiSetup.OSX prefs and launched ProTools again...puh...now it's working again.

Any idea?
