Pro-Tools M-powered 8.01 Fast Track Pro Crackle
I'm trying to set up a new install of Pro-tools M-Powered 8.01
The very first time I play a recorded track it sounds fine, then the next time a huge crackle starts up. If I re start Pro-Tools, the cycle starts again. I reinstalled the drivers, but still happens. The audio from the DVD tutorial plays thru Fast track Pro fine?? Open to all suggestions... system details below. Dell Inspiron 1750 Intel Core Duo CPU 2.2 GHz 4 GB RAM Windows 7 64bit M-Audio Pro-tools v8.01 Fast Track Pro A/D interface [newest drivers] |

Re: Pro-Tools M-powered 8.01 Fast Track Pro Crackle
I found that when I increased my buffer size under Setup / Playback engine, from 512 to 1024 the distortion stopped. There does seem to be more latency... as when I monitor in headphones I hear a slight digital delay effect, and that's with just three tracks playing
Is there a guide to how to allocate system resources in Window's 7 to optimize Pro-Tools performance? Thanks, |

Re: Pro-Tools M-powered 8.01 Fast Track Pro Crackle
I have the same problem, on three different computers with two different fast track usb devices, running either xp pro or win 7 pro 32bit. Reinstalling OS and everything from scratch no help.
Latency for fast track is set to 256. Tried increasing, per djbeede's suggestion, but it is greyed out. If I quit pro tools (M-powered 8), i can change the latency, but it reverts back to 256 when I fire up pro tools. Anyone? This whole setup is useless with all the distortion. it comes and goes with no rhyme or reason. |

Re: Pro-Tools M-powered 8.01 Fast Track Pro Crackle
OK, FS1 posted this, and after changing the buffer size under "playback engine" to 1024, it sounds fine. Will see how long that lasts...have my fingers crossed.
From FS1 - http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread...+track+latency "Click "Setup", then "Playback Engine...". Change your buffer size (latency) there. I suggest keeping the CPU usage at the default level of "85%". Uncheckmark the box for the "RTAS Engine". That mess will cause popping during playback. Maybe even during recording. It even says it might do that next to the checkmark box. The lower the buffer size, the more of a possibility of cracks and pops during playback and possibly during recording. Take it from someone who really wanted to use 128 samples for recording. I use 512 now. It's not that big of a difference. There is a small difference, but you better have one hell of a computer to handle that low level of latency. I'm am very happy with 512. I think you all will be as well. If not, make sure your computer has the best processor it can get. My computer is great for me." |

Re: Pro-Tools M-powered 8.01 Fast Track Pro Crackle
I may borrow an interface from a friend to try firewire...this happens in both win 7 and XP with the fast track usb. So far, still working OK after increasing playback engine buffer size. 2.1G core2duo w 4GB RAM
*fingers still crossed* |
