Default 2019.6.0 Won't Open Older PTX Files

ProTools 2019.6.0 on Mojave 10.14.5

When I open older PTX files it acts normal loading files quickly until done then the menu bar gets dark, the session is not available, PT is frozen, AND Force Quit won't open.

It's running fine on new and current projects. I think the older files are v2012 and v2011 files. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I haven't seen this here. Can you restore your data by import session? If you don't, then perhaps the session file is corrupted.

Those older session files - PT10 or PT11? I've had some issues with files from those versions but those have been due to certain plugins either way out of date or no longer available. What I do is to hold down the shift key when opening the session so PT will start with no plugins. Then I'll look and see what plugins might be suspect and delete them and use something else I currently have available. Sure the sound might change but also it might be worth it.

Second - do you mean Force Quit won't quit PT?

Sometimes Force Quit is grayed out on dock, in which case you open Activity Monitor and kill it there.

Haven't had to do that but good advice. What I was wondering about was did the op make a slip in what he wrote when he said Force Quit won't open.

Cmd-Opt-Esc also works to bring up a floating window to force quit applications.

OK Reply-To-All on the Force Quit: It literally will not open by CMD-OPT-ESC either. Strangest thing. Like, it works before I open the PT session, then it does not when PT hangs up. Activity Monitor is a good idea, though--will try it, and the Shift+Open Sesisons, and Import. Thank you for the tips... will reply with results.

OK in the interest of full disclosure and at risk of looking like an idiot:
  • Importing the session worked!
  • Shift+Load didn't seem to work
  • The plugins were all up to date
  • Force Quit was loading on a remote screen, which was powered off. That's really dumb--sorry! That's what the gray bar meant. I know, #awful.

Thanks everyone for the help I did learn a few new tricks and that is much appreciated!
