Default Bypassing the Mbox 2 Pro\'s pres

Hey,
Anyone know if there's a way to bypass the mbox 2 pro's pres when using an external pre?
I read one comment on one thread that this may not be possible.
True?

I'm using a really nice mic pre, going TRS into the combined TRS/XLR input on the back of the Mbox 2 pro.
The gain knob on the front of the mbox adds gain when I turn it, which makes me think the pre's on the mbox aren't really being bypassed...

Thoughts?

Thanks alot for any advice!

ps - On a totally different note - I have a dbx compressor in-between the pre and the mbox, and an using a relatively cheap microphone cable to connect the pre to the dbx - am I shooting my signal chain in the foot?

You have four line inputs. 3 & 4 are definitely line inputs, no mic pre. I am not clear on 1 & 2. It could be that you are going through the pres even if you use the 1/4" TRS plug.

Try inputs 3 and 4.

Thanks Park Seward.
Those are AUX TR only inputs, no sleeve. Aren't the balanced TRS inputs preferable?

The AUX 'Line Level' Inputs (3 and 4 in Pro Tools) are Tip Sleeve.

This is Something that has been bothering me about the 003.

I have a presonus digimax 96k for ADAT
and I want to bypass the 003's mic pres.

On digi's web site they say that the first 4 inputs are TRS balanced line ins.
But the other 4 (5 through 8) are only TS.
Does this mean that that the 1st 4 inputs will be re-amped through the 003's mic pres
and the other 4 inputs (5 through 8) are going to be lesser quality because of only being
unbalanced TS's?

I want to get some nice 8 channel tube pre for the 8 analogue in
but if its going to sound like ***** I'm not sure what to do.

thanks

You may have to get an AD converter and go in through the SPDIF.

I go from my DAV BG-1 into the line input on inputs 1&2 on my MBox Pro using balanced cables.

Bypasses the pres as far as I'm aware, gain turned all the way down on the MBox.
