Default Best Pro Tools Controller Under 2K

I've been looking at the artist control, just wondering what people consider to be the best Pro Tools control surface under 2 grand? Thanks!

Be a good duc'ster and delete the other 2 versions of this post To the question, the Artist Mix is about the ONLY controller in that price range. C24 is way more money. Control24 may not work at all, come PT11. Command8 is a decent controller, but also may not be supported. Anything that runs HUI mode should work, but how well is up for discussion. I like my little 003 controller, but it limits the IO possibilities. Artist Mix is on my radar as well

I just ran accross this new board that is really both a live sound and recording board, with the added DAW controll with automated faders. It is a pretty decent size board but does also act as a 32x32 Interface right into Pro Tools (so no need for interfacing the board into an I/O unit)... kinda nice for less then 3K.. Ive heard people say 2500 though... Has Midas preamps too since Berhinger just bought them they now own all there technology.

Read the spects too as this control features for mixing are limited to the right 8 faders (not all 24 faders)..... but for the money... hmmmmmm....

While that is a very interesting board, I'm pretty sure it doesn't have Midas preamps. I also see it much more as a live console with recording capabilities than a studio interface/control surface. In lots of ways it's everything I wish the presonus studio live was. However everyone has their own needs and preferences.

Hey like I said it is a live board but has so many features for a studio, yes they are MIDAS PRE's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hisoSMMCJMA

Anyway... a 32x32 interface via firewire is enough at 2500-3K but then adds control for DAW's so I can mix (and it has layers to select banks of 8) on the 8 faders on the right.

It ALSO has a mixer interface via firewire for a band to mix their own headphones....

Blam studio needs are there too.

**** sorry meant to say the 32x32 interface has a built in firewire card... the personal mixers run via CAT6 like an aviom

Oh and I forgot ANOTHER cool feature...

You can take this board out and record a live set and all 32 inputs will record to a thumb drive to import to your DAW.

Pretty f'ing badass for the cash... Im thinking of getting one this summer to have in my home studio.

An old Tascam US2400 in HUI mode for $600 on ebay. No scribble strips but works great with PT10 on win7.

Cheers

Not to be forgotten, but the Projectmix I/O is under 2k and is very very very well integrated in pro tools.

IMO, despite its shortcomings, best bang for buck still seems to be the trusty old Command8. We're talking about PROTOOLS controller here and HUI is just not good enough as a protocol.

Sure, with integrated power supply, Ethernet connectivity and touch enabled rotary controls the C8 would be close to perfect in its price range but where it's most lacking is that it's a "Command 8" and many would like a "Command 16" -- small enough and big enough.

If you already have an iPad, then best bang for buck would be Neyrinck's controller software. It's rather nice but takes some time to get used to.
