Default Dude. Please. For God's sake...

Listen to me.

The drivers that allow Digi devices to operate on the new 64 bit operating systems ARE NOT 64 bit themselves.

I can tell that some of you know this. But others. Holy crap. Keep mis-speaking about this. Post after post after post.

Pro Tools, even with the beta drivers still exist ENTIRELY in a 32 bit processing environment. Soup to nuts. Head to toe.

The beta drivers only allow these devices to capture a 32 bit runtime environment within the operating system's native 64 bit environment.

It's just a Playstation 2 game running on a PS3. That's it. No benefits are gained by the application in anyway from the increased bandwidth of the improved OS.

PRO TOOLS WILL NEVER operate in a true 64 bit capacity on native systems. It would take a paradigm shift in AVID business practices and HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars in programming and compilation hours to even scratch the surface of an advanced version of Pro Tools.

Well there seems to be an absence of a certain ornithological piece: a headline regarding mass awareness of a certain avian variety.

I believe Tom is closest to being correct - he's of the opinion that even if Digi were to begin programming now, it would take 2-3 years at least for PT to become 64bit.

and another thing....

in a year or two we'll all have affordable super-fast SSD's in our DAW's, that one can store all their PageFile needs on.

The PageFile in effect is therefor extra virtual RAM being stored on a device that is RAM.

So who needs PT 64bit if the above becomes true, being that the only major advantage of 64bit is it being able to see more RAM?

Everybody keeps saying this (and it's true,) but the interesting thing is that we say it like Avid doesn't have 2-3 years left. It's like "2-3 years? Why bother?" Interesting...

Windows 7 being the last 32 bit offering from Microsoft will make things interesting to say the least when the next OS is delivered.
