Default The Wonders of Remote Desktop

OK - So I've spent the weekend sorting out my studio, I have 2 PT rigs one on my MB Pro and one on my Imac G5 running my VIs through an Mbox which runs via SPDIF back into my 002R.

This was all good, but I was sick of having to turn around to the other Mac, then I decided to use Remote Desktop - all I can say is 'BRILLIANT' now I have my real protools and a virtual one on the same screen - it works like a dream and I've locked them as well with MTC - a power rig!!!

For those of us new to the remote desktop, can you walk us through the steps to do this?

Thanks.

Easy peasey.

Get a copy of Remote Desktop from Apple http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/

Then on the Mac you want to control go into System Preferences, Sharing and check the 'Remote Management' option on the machine you want to control.

Install 'Remote Desktop' on the Mac that will be the master. Open remote desktop and all computers on your network will appear, if it's just the one machine it will be a list of two, the one your on and the other machine. You then have a number of options, one being 'control', click on this and away you go.

You can run it just as if you were on the Mac for real (as long as all the options are checked). So you can open up remote desktop, login to the other machine, open up Pro Tools and control all you VI's etc.

I'm not sure what load it puts on the Mac but I haven't had any 'insufficient resource' messages from either machine!!!

If you're on Leopard, you can do this through iChat. Just select the person you want to screen share with, then click the screen sharing button at the bottom of your buddy list (it's the rightmost one).

Obviously you'll need 2 iChat accounts - 1 for each machine.

I don't know for sure - I've never gone into any real depth, but the iChat version seems to give you full control of the other Mac in every way that seems necessary for doing things like this.
