Default Pitching changes with Dig/Int Sync

This is in regards to using ProTools 4.3+ on a G4. It seems that if there is loading into a session at different times and the sync type in the Session Setup Window is changed between digital/internal sync, the sounds in the session get pitched up or down. Can anyone tell us what is the best selection between internal and digital sync when loading sounds into a session?

Where are you loading the sounds from?

When sync is set to Internal, your system is clocked from your Digidesign Interface (888, 882, etc...) When sync is set to Digital, it will look for clock from you S/PDIF inputs or AES/EBU inputs #'s 1 & 2.

If you are bringing audio in via digital transfer from a DAT machine or other digital device, set the sync to digital and make sure your source is providing word clock.

During almost all other operations, your sync mode should be set to internal.

Also, this may change if you are using a master clock for your studio such as a USD or an ArdSync.

BTW - Your Pitch up and down thing could be one of two things.

First, either there's an absence of clock. PT in Digital Sync and no word clock present.

Or, upon swithing back to internal sync, your sample rate is set different from what the digital source was set at. i.e. you did a transfer from a DAT machine set at 44.1K and PT was set to 48K.
