You're right, of course. Thanks for pointing that out.

Its because OS X Catalina has completely made 32 bit obsolete and well a lot of the drivers were still using 32 bit code...So, we are all out of luck...

Good thing, this will force people like me to buy a new USB Audio that I know is pure 64 bit...This will actually help alleviate a lot of bottle necking...

Now, choices, choices, choices...

Still, USB-Audio.Com claims they make a 3rd-party driver for many old interfaces and that it's Catalina compatible, so 64bit, and I believe them. I just got the firewire part wrong.

Mbox has EOL'd 8/30/2019 and last supported on Mojave 10.14.4 (not the latest release) so I would not hold my breath on Catalina compatibility

When did they tell you so? I reached out to Avid last month and the support person told me there were no drivers nor there will be in the future. He gave me the Mbox Pro end of support date, blah, blah, blah...

Default Re: MBox 3 Pro w/ Catalina

I managed to make it work with some workaround:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Y2-qNsH7g

1- This doesn't work on a fresh install of Catalina.
2- Install Mojave and Mbox Pro 3 drivers
3- Update from Mojave to Catalina
4- It should be working without the control app. If it doesn't work (or stopped working after a while), boot up a Windows (Boot Camp) with Mbox Pro 3 drivers. As soon as the interface starts working again on Windows, reset to MacOS.

It might work copying the Mojave driver files to the same directory on a fresh install of Catalina. But I'm not willing buy a U$ 50 Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter to test that on my MBP.

Unfortunately, I don't think they have any interest in supporting their prosumer line of products, which is a shame. Avid, if you're reading these things, throw us poor prosumers a bone and give us a 64-bit driver for Mac (and PC, assuming they don't have one), at least for the Mbox 3 Pro. A little kindness today would seed customer loyalty tomorrow, when we might be studio owners with decent cash to spend who remember you guys sticking by your product line.
Did Avid really just brick my Mbox 3 when I updated to Catalina?

That's the definition of crappy customer support. Now I have to go buy a whole new audio interface just because Avid is too forking lazy to write a new driver?

Say it ain't so.
