Default INSTALLED PANTHER AND NOW MBOX CRASHES ON STARTUP

I HAVE PROTOOLS 6.1.2 INSTALLED AND NOW THAT I HAVE PANTHER IT CRASHES AND REQUIRES ME TO SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER. I'VE DONE THIS ON A DUAL 1.25 AND MY NEW IBOOK G4 800MHZ WITH 628 RAM AND IT REACTS THE SAME ON BOTH MACHINES. THE IBOOK CAME WITH PANTHER AND I'VE UPGRADED THE POWERMAC TO PANTHER AS WELL. NOW, NO PROTOOLS.

HELP ME PLEASE.

ProTools is not supported on Panther yet - it will require an update to the ProTools software. If you want to run ProTools, you need to re-install 10.2.6 or 10.2.8.

Check out the compatibility pages in the future, you'll save yourself some headaches.

Why are they so far behind everyone else? Of course Logic works ok, that would be expected. But Motu, who is usually slow, was ready for Panther. It's not like Digi has not known about this. Computer horsepower is going up and Digi is slowing down. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see where that is headed.

I know, it takes time to write code. Hire more programmers.

What's it been, a week?

I think that the fact that, unlike MOTU and Emagic, they have to make sure that their software and hardware work together, may have something to do with it.

No, it has *not* been only a week.

Do you fathom that MOTU, Steinberg, and Emagic got their code updated in only week? No. The developer release has been available since the WWDC. All three companies have hardware that they need to concern themselves with as well. While I can see your point that END USERS have only been exposed to Panther for a week, developers have had a working copy for months.

Sounds like its working perfectly ,considering the combination of hardware, software and OS.

Get real people this isn't a printer or a digtal camera we're talkin about. Give Digi a little time. I dont think 2 or 3 weeks is unreasonable for an OS update this major.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but are you people INTENTIONALLY ignoring the fact that Panther was released to developers in June 2003? It sends my flying when I read someone say "It was just released". Which is not false, btw, but Digidesign and other developers have had 17 weeks to get it ready for the official release (which was one week ago today).

Is this concept starting to sink in to anyone. Am I talking to a brick wall here?

Panther must require re-working of the hardware drivers. It generally takes longer to do that. Digi software talks to the hardware on a very low level, I believe, which is something to do with their performance.
It never ceases to amaze me that people here operate without doing research first.

Muzza, what was unresearched? The fact that Digi uses a low level kernel extension (KEXT) as their drivers? and talks to the hardware through proprietary means instead of utilizing CoreAudio when using PT talks to the hardware? How exactly does this change the fact that they had 17 weeks to work it out? I'm curious, please follow up with your little snap at the end there. No-one in this thread has said anything "unresearched" ? ? ?
