Default Re: New Allenstein system.... Radeon 7500 causes system to lock up..

Okay, I tried the AGP 1X mode, and no dice. Then I tried the safe mode install and an error message popped that said...

Severe
INF Error
Video Driver Not Found

Then when I clicked "okay", another window popped up that said...

Severe
Setup was unable to complete installation. Try to set up your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup.

Okay, so now what? Maybe I need a file from the Microsoft website? I can't do a windows update though because I don't have online access from that PC. I'd have to download the files onto my other pc then burn to disk and transfer to the allenstein. Problem is, Microsoft Windows update doesn't work that way. You have to log on with the computer you wish to update so it can scan your hard drive and see what files need updating.

Any other ideas?

I bought a Radeon 9000 today as a last resort... but I'd REALLY REALLY like to avoid opening it and return it if I can get this damn 7500 to work.

I didn't see any reply's on sharing issues, so I assume you check that?

I run the 7500 w/ my A7X8N mobo xp2700 w/o any issues, xp home. If fact I used bios 1001d, e, beta, and now 1002.3 and never ran into any issues.

Maybe the 7500 is crapped out??

I'm running the 7500 with the A7N8X/Digi-001 and have not run into any trouble either. You say the video card runs fine in another system. I had a problem with windows crashing during install, but it had nothing to do with the video card. My boyfriend started a whole thread based on this problem called "mofo mobo", but this was becuase we had problems with the install on the A7V8X, so I swapped it for the A7N8X and there were no problems. (something about the chipset being compatible).

Well, I found a blip about this problem on the Microsoft website and is suggested I download a certain driver from ATI website. It tried that and STILL it doesn't work.

My last resort is tomorrow afternoon when I get home from work I will call ATI tech support. If they can't get this piece of sh*t working then I am going to just return the video card and install the Radeon 9000 that I bought today instead. Knowing my luck I'll still have the same problem.

Seems like this Radeon 7500 is only a problem with the new VIA chipset boards KT333 and KT400. I used the Radeon 7500 on an A7V266E with the VIA KT266a chipset with no problems. Installed flawlessly with WinXP and I know many others that have too. You are the fourth person now that I know of that ran into this install issue.
I replaced this card with the Radeon 9000 today. If it were me I'd save my time and money (tech. support) and use the Radeon 9000 and send the 7500 back.
