Default Thinking about purchasing 001...need advice

Hi. I am thinking about getting the 001 package. I have some concerns about my system though. First... I am just moving into the world of digital recording with computers so I am not real, real down with the jargon yet. Anyhow... here is my system: AMD K6 3D processor at 500MHz. 128 MB RAM, 5400 rpm hard drive. Can I make it work? I read that the AMD processor kinda screws me? Is there a way around this, how do I get another processor if there is not? Is this the right product for me? Thanx for reading and thank you for the help in advance...slydeni

Hi there

Your right (sorry) the AMD chip and motherborad are not compatible with pro tools so from an upgrade point of view it looks like a complete new system I'm afraid that is if you really want pro tools (drive speeds should be at leat 7200rpm too).

I was in this same position having an AMD chip when I started out and looked around at all my options. I came to the conclusion that the digi 001 was for me (but not everybody likes it). I bought a Mac 450 G4 and I am very happy...

Check out the main site at www.digidesign.com for compatability info.

slydeni:

Your best bet is to look into an Intel based PC or Mac. Digidesign has specific guidelines on what works and what doesn't.

You may want to check our website. If nothing else it would give you a good idea of what works and which quality name brand components we use in our 001 systems.

Good luck

I hear Digi 001 will not work with Windows 2000.

Is this true?
If so is there a patch or update to fix this?

If does anyone here know of another product that i can get that will run with Win 2000?

I really want better quality recordings then those of the past Chec Out My Tunes!!

"I hear Digi 001 will not work with Windows 2000. Is this true?"

Yes.

"If so is there a patch or update to fix this?"

No. Digi hasn't commited to one yet, and if they did, it would probably be at least a few months until release (if ever). Don't hold your breath.
