Re: How can I.........
what flavor of 003?
only if it can work free standing and can ether send a line out after the pre or do a free standing analog to digital conversion out the ADAT port (I think only the control surface can do this) much easier to get some good pres and forget the 003

The 003 is a firewire interface, it does not work in a system with Pro Tools HD interfaces. Neither is there a way to run the 003 in a stand-alone mode, say where you would configure the 003 Mic preamps to analog sends or say the ADAT digital out that you could connect to a 96i. Neither will the 003 act as a control surface for the HD system. Darryl |

Re: How can I.........
Darryl & Craig~
Thru the 003 you have your inputs and outputs! could I not use the outputs on the mixer 003 to go into the inputs on the 96i?? My Gear Includes my Eleven Rack and Zoom G9.2tt. and midi for the drums and mic for the singer. If the 96i had anyway to adjust the volume, pan, etc and inputs for XLR...then I would not need the mixer. I do know that I could use my Pro Tools 10 mixer, however...I do need the XLR Any other help maybe on installing it thru the 96i Besides using the inputs on 96i and the outputs on 003? Using the firewire on 003 it would be better on using the Core Card on 96i etc. Gentlemens?... Thanx~ Cowboy~ |

You seem to also be asking for the 003 to be a control surface for HD, as I already mentioned you cannot do that either with a 003. With what you describe you have so far the only mix control you will have is in the Pro Tools user interface on your computer. You also really will likely want to mix in Pro Tools not a stand-alone mixer/front-end so the whole thought of having a 'mixer' in front if your HD interface is the wrong way to think. As others have said it would be much simpler to look for some dedicated mic preamps. Choices there are nearly unlimited--including many better than the Pres in the 003. Darryl |

Re: How can I.........
Well I'll offer one whacky idea: Try putting the 003 in audio test/internal loopback mode. I think that will get you the Mic inputs mapped directly to the same numbered line outs. Trivial to test--read the manual on how to set this up. Of course you still cannot use the control surface (slidey things) feature with Pro Tools and you don't connect the 003 to a computer. Just try this stand-alone.
Kind of an "if stuck on a desert island kind of idea". But also just might be better to see if the 003 can be set on fire and used as a distress signal... Darryl |

D~
Thanks so much for the INFO!..... With the "Core" card....It does not use the cpu as much as the 003 will!.....sooooooo.....out of a silly "Q"...what can I use on 96i that will allow me to mix the sound?????????...... What the H***....why did they not put the "Thing'eee" sliders on 96i?.....and the XLR...instead of the 1/4 plug in???? Cowboy~ |

You use Pro Tools and your mouse and keyboard to "Mix the Sound". If you want a control surface Avid will want to sell you the Artist series Mix controller or a C|24. Given the current questions you may want to take a step back and do some reading, take a class or try to find somebody who knows Pro Tools who can help you just get pointed in the right way to avoid a future of frustration here. The 96 IO you have is a line level (not Mic Pre) analog interface. Fairly standard to use TRS jacks for that. They have better panel density than XLR, and for some uses you would go out to a patch bay with a range of possible different connectors. Darryl |
