How does PT(LE-MP) recognize hardware? PCI-FW-USB
Since Digi abandoned PCI interfaces in 6.2.3 and 6.4 (AMIII and Digi 001 respectively) and now has resurrected PCI interfaces in Protools M-Powered.... Can anyone explain how the Protools program recognizes the various types of hardware? I did a cursory serach in the in folders and found several interface specific files for 002r, 002, 001 and AMII.... And I tried to install PT-MP demo on my system which has PTLE 6.2.3... (i have an AMIII) and an error came up saying that an "incompatible" version of protools is on this system and to erase this version of protools before installing PT-MP. So i am wondering if PT-MP can be tricked into thinking its recognizing an Audiophile 2496, but really reading an AMIII... i know this might be difficult-to- impossible to do, but the hacker fire in me is being stoked... From a gut feel, since 6.4 has the DAE which is compatible with 6.7 plugs (i.e. what was discovered from the EQIII release) I think that it may be possible to take digi001 specific files from a valid 6.4 installation and somehow patch them over to a PT-MP installation (on a separate hd partition) It may take renaming certain elements from reading 'digi001' to 'AP2496'/other .. so MP thinks its a M-audio PCI interface, but really is a digi001 interface... I think this would be harder to do to for the AMIII since its DAE in 6.2.3 is different from the DAE in 6.4 and 6.7 (this difference in DAE is unknown but is taken from other posts when the 6.4 release was just issued) If anyone can explain this difference, I would appreciate it. Dont know, but just throwing it out there to see what you all think. This is only proof-of-concept type stuff.... since AMIII or digi001 users would have to shell out $300 clams to get the latest revision it would a labor of love rather than for economic savings. Im happy with my ebay $125 AMIII card and the $75 upgrade cost to get PTLE 6.1.2 panther install CD years back.... It would be better for digi to allow AMIII, digi001 users supported drivers to run PT-MP at a reduced cost... after all, some of us only do non-professional audio and dont need all the bells and whistles PTLE offers... PCI is PCI...what is so hard in keeping alive old hardware? ( ok, testing and loss of potential revenue.. ok, ok ) I appreciate your input and advice. Re: How does PT(LE-MP) recognize hardware? PCI-FW-USB
That's another good one!!!
I too would like know how PCI support is back in this 6.8 version. I think that the release of PTMP will bring more questions than answers! M |
