Default Waves SSL causes Pro Tools to randomly crash..

Hi all... i downloaded the Waves SSL demos last weekend with a view to buying them. I got my iLok demo install sorted, but the first time i opened up a session and inserted an SSL plug in, PT worked for a while, then froze with a jittery sound of playback, then exited without warning. This has been happening randomly for a few days now, and today i finally gave up on the Waves SSL demo, and uninstalled it. It was to the point where i could open any session with an SSL plug in and wait and within a few minutes PT would just exit. I thought it might have had something to do with the Autosave, but i turned it off and it still just exited at random.

I'm particularly disappointed because from what i did hear the SSL plug ins sounded great.

My system is a remarkably stable old P4/3.2 with 1 gig of Ram. The alarming thing is i think this computer has inadvertently crashed about 3 times in 2 and a half years. This week it would have crashed 50 times.

I've searched the forums and answerbases here and at Waves, but in a last desperate plea thought i'd ask here to see if anyone has any ideas..

Thanks in advance..

Do you have the most current iLok drivers installed? Or at least drivers that are recent since the SSL came out? Another thing that I suspect may have caused me some trouble awhile back ( not with SSL, but to have some stability issues) was that somewhere along the way of installing new plugins, I noticed in my add/remove control panel that I had 2 instances of the iLok Interlok driver. Removing the older of the two got things running stable again.

Have you installed the Waves patch for PT 7 from the Waves site? If you don't have an account with Waves, you may not be able to download it. I'm not sure.

It's a patch from Waves that makes their plug-ins Pro Tool version 7 compatible.

You may try this if it applies to you:

I am sorry but I do not know what the problem is.
If you are using hyper threading machine, disable this feature at the BIOS.

If you are not using American English as your default Language:
1. Go to: Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Select Regional and Language Options.
3. Click on the Customize icon.
4. Make the following changes:
Decimal symbol: . (dot)
Digit grouping symbol: , (comma)
List separator: , (comma)
Negative number format: -1.1

As stated by waves support on: http://forum.waves.com/viewtopic.php...light=ssl+4000

, or you may have better luck posting your problem there as well.

Cheers,
- J

I have posted my problems at the Waves forum, and Waves have been in touch with me. They've even ben helpful enough to extend my demo period for a week to see if i can sort it out. I have tried the language setup thing, but no dice. Next we're looking at display settings.. And my machine doesn't have hyperthreading..
