Default Digi Bailing from Mac OS?

Hi everybody,
I heard from a Digi rep that perhaps in the future (a few years) Digi/PT is going to bail out of Mac OS.
Is there any substance to this or is it just noise.?
Cant imagine PT going Windows only.....
But stranger things have happened before.
Any info would truly be apreciated

perhaps . . . in the future they will be using a self-made proprietary voice activated OS.
perhaps . . . in the future there will be no Windows, no Macintosh either.

. . . and the world will live as one . . .
apologies to John Lennon

It's been covered before:

As stated many times before, Digidesign has no plans to drop Mac OS support. We support both Mac and Windows platforms and let the customer choose.

Hello. I wanted to add that this 'rumor' was started by a Digidesign employee, at a Digidesign event speaking in the context of Digidiesign and Mac's (Pro Tools Tuesdays in Dallas Texas). So if Digidesign really wants to quash rumors about this sort of thing, then they really shouldn't be the ones to start them, now should they?

Do also remember that Venue is a hardware product that runs on an embedded OS software (which just happens to be Windows XP). So it's not terribly far fetched to think that Digidesign could offer a hardware product with an embedded OS in which the end user would no longer need an outside CPU and OS to run the software. By the way, Digidesign could offer this in addition to today's systems and not to replace them. So it's not quite as crazy as we all may think.

However as far as them just dropping Mac all together, I just don't see what Digidesign would gain by dropping Mac's. It's way too profitable for them. It doesn't make sense.

DigiWorld in San Fran during the first week of October is a pretty comprehensive event that is co-sponsored by Digi and Apple.

Hey Gio,

Sorry you couldn't make it to the meeting last night. Apparently you received some (bad) second hand information. So for you and the rest of DUC land, let me restate what I stated last night.

While our Avid Unity support and V|10 hardware support remains PC only, the good news is our upcoming HD video solution will hopefully allow you to run the ProTools side on a Mac. Video play out will likely be on a PC but our hopes is to allow the ProTools machine to be either Mac or PC. This should be very good news for the heavily Mac-centric PT editors here in Dallas.

I'm not sure what part of that says we're leaving the Mac platform. You've got my phone number and email address. Please give me a ring if you want to chat.

-Jake

Hi Jake,
i believe I'm going to have to spank some audio engineers with BAD EARS apparently.
A couple of the guys were all worried about the apparent "future of Digi and Mac thing" that they understood.
Will have to send Q-Tips to them, or send an iChat webcam to the meetings when I cant make it out to them.
Thanks for the clarification on that.

I hear that John DeLorean is NO LONGER MAKING THE CAR?
No way!!! Does that mean my Atari 1040STFM will need updating? AGAIN?

Let's hope they don't use those same ears to record/edit/mix.

Mac/PC - can't kill 'em, can't run PT w/o 'em.
