Default No Quicktime audio playback through Core Audio

I recently upgraded to Leopard and discovered today that I have no audio playback for Quicktime. I am running OS 10.5.3 with Quicktime 7.2.1. I've heard this is not a unique problem. Anyone know a fix?

Also, is it safe to upgrade to the latest Quicktime player or will there be conflicts with Pro Tools?

Mac Pro 3 ghz quad processors, 3 gbs RAM, 250 gb start up drive, 750 gb audio drive, Digi 002/Pro Tools LE 7.4.2

Ive not tried the Quicktime through Core Audio, but I on your point of running the latest Quicktime, I've not had a problem. But then again, I've had othe stupid problems like drives mounting and unmounting on their own or PT just quiting when i open up Reason.

Have you tried the workaround of opening Apple sound preferences and toggling the output from 002 to built-in and back?

A bit of a PITA but it might get you up and running.

I tried toggling the sound preference between internal and digi 002 but that didn't work. Trashing preferences didn't work. And it turns out that I'm not getting sound in any of my non-Pro tools apps except Reason. Toast, itunes, web browsers, Mail (which refuses to play its alerts through the internal speaker - a new problem) all are no longer recognized by the core audio driver. The problems started after I tried using Audio Hijack. It also seems to coordinate with my uninstalling the time expired version of 7.4.2 and installing the newer version. I've tried uninstalling the latter and reinstalling the former and then installing the patch but nothing works. Trashed prefs, etc.
