Default cpu indicator floating - 9128

Hi,

Working on winxp with a heavy count of tracks and buses, and a bit of waves and bombfactory plugs - HW set to 128, I start getting the 9128 error.

But my cpu indicator (protools, not the task manager) indicates a third of the scale.
The problem is it's jumping up and down like crazy, and often peaks, generating the error.

What strikes me is that the machine is still realy fast and responding, not suffering any cpu load. But this cpu floating causes the error anyway.

Any suggestions?

THX

try setting your DAE to 8, and running 128 at 85% CPU.
Also what is your computer?

I am having the same problem, I am running windows XP home, I have a Dell 8250 computer, 2.4Ghz, 512 mb of RDram and 2 WD 120GB 7200rpm hard drives. My problem only seems to happen on this one song of mine and I have other songs with more tracks and plug-ins.

Sounds like the DVerb and Pentium 4 problem.. a search of this forum should yield you some previous history of this problem.

Ski and jon,
I'm using an amd athlon 2.4 1gig 233ram, ecs mainboard, two maxtor 40/80 drives, a motor mix on digidesign ports and 2 midi things on a usb midi interface.
Looks like disabling usb ports helps a little, but sure not enough.

The error is not too frequent, but doesn't allow me to bounce, or record at ease with a full session.

I've tried the DAE change and I already work with 85%cpu, but nothing realy happens.

Only way is to raise the H/W buffer, but I use outboard in realtime and this makes it unsuitable.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you!!!

By the way,
no ugly D-verb in my sessions, I use the Waves R-verb o trueverb and I use an RME adi8pro converter, but turning it off doesn't change much.

Something that looks usefull is disconnecting the master keyboard. The floating diminishes.

Still not enough though....

Hi,

I've gotten that annoying cpu bouncing thing with Amplitube and Autotune together and separately depending on which way the wind is blowing. Usually I can loose a few different plug-ins to reduce cpu, reboot, and the problem goes away. If that doesn't work, I just print the effect to tape and forget it.

John.

Digi says if you go too far with plugs, cpu can't handle the work. That's a fact.

But if could diminsh the floating, I can run much more plugs.

At the moment this is what I'm doing:

1) Cpu can't handle the work, so I raise the buffer at 2048
2) Tracks going to and coming from outboard will be delayed by twice the buffer size so 4096 samples.
3) I move backwards (on a different playlist)the track by that value (4096 samples)

Result: a lot of cpu power on mixdown and my outboard still working on time.

On a P4 2.4 533 with 512 DDR with the 845pesv I can easily run heavy track counts (26 or more plus auxes) with multiple D-verbs, Waves and BF Classics at 128 buffer size.
What are your Davec results?

What is your chipset

Ok,
this is my complete hardware:
mobo ecs KTVTA3
chipset via KT333&8233a
2X512DRAM at233
maxtor 40g ata133 for system (2 part)on primary master
maxtor 80G (8megs cache) for audio (no part) primary slave
only 1 usb controller enabled (bios)with a midi usb interface (irq5)
ethernet bios disabled
1 ide cd and 1 burner on secondary m/s
digi 001 on slot marked 1 (irq10)
The mobo as an integrated sound c, disabled from bios
Bios has not been updated to work with the 2.4 amd proc but runs fine

Any other utilities or programs running

If I open the task manager I have 16 processes running (including PT and task man.), I don't know what to disable...but don't run anything like antivirus or so..

If you start a new session where is the CPU?

on new sessions cpu is almost not present, with a little dot floating a bit (128)

Could you be more specific on the session track count.

The sessions I'm talkin about are 24trk, 8 stereo aux, 2 Truverbs, new bf fairchild pultec etc.
(Note that I run demos of those plugins)

It's not the cpu usage disturbing, is its jumping up and down (at 128, if I raise it, no problem!!)

What are your Davec results?

Never did a davec test, I will and let you know.

What you think? I realy don't know how to tweak xp.....
