The drummer, bassist and lead singer all wanted to be louder so...

I turned down the guitars!

Hilarious. I just got a douche chill reading this as 25 years of studio work flashed before my eyes. There's nothing like objective mixing advice from the musicians whose only comment is "[insert their instrument] needs to be louder"

The best part is whoever misses the mixing session pays the price.

Hey, when Ringo missed a session due to a sore throat they didn't just lower him in the mix, Paul hired another drummer for the day! That's rock and roll loyalty for ya!

And don't forget those famous words uttered by Ian Gillian......"could we have everything louder than everything else?"

Classic Unintended rock comedy! No doubt Deep Purple and bands of that era were models for Marty DiBergi's Spinal Tap Rockumentary due to lines such as you quoted no doubt uttered w/out a trace of irony.
While most of my friends in the music biz have memorized the lines from "Tap" and carry on entire conversations with nothing more than dialogue and quotes, I have one friend who doesn't get the joke. His biggest musical influence?
DP and IG! Even better he hates Smoke on the Water becuz he says they sold out their metal heritage to write that song. Lmao - rock n roll comedy is the best!
