Upgrading from PT 12 to PT 12 HD for software features
Hi,
I have a PT 12 perpetual license and I'm thinking about getting PT 12 HD. I'm good on CPU (12-core 3,5GHz) and I run a UAD Apollo, so no need for more horsepower or a better interface etc. Only reason why I'd prefer HD is to get all the additional features, especially advanced automation features (trim!!), transfer gain between clip gain and fader volume and all those other fancy-schmancy workflow enhancements. Since I tried and really didn't get the whole upgrade plan spiel, what's the cheapest way to get those HD features? Might be a super simple answer, but I seriously didn't get it. Thanks a ton! |

Re: Upgrading from PT 12 to PT 12 HD for software features
Getting HD is no easy task as they aren't sold separately, not via any support plan or Avid certified store either.
So the cheapest way where you get Avids support is if you find a person who bought a HD setup like OMNI/8X8X8 i/o etc and thunderbolt or PCIe card and doesn't want or need the HD license but as Avid had never sold HD separate from a bundled hardware package I would look around for a HD Bundle unregistered with a HD license and sell off the hardware. That would be the best way and the legal Avid way.

Thanks SSM!
Well, seems like quite a detour, but if that's how it is, I'll try to get a license this way. Do you know anyone by any chance? |

Bear in mind that HD upgrade and support plan is 399/year so "cheapest" is not the way to think about HD

Yes thats the going rate for the PT12 HD sodtware with the support Plan to get the license, then the yearly price of $399 as of now which can be changed at anytime.

Re: Upgrading from PT 12 to PT 12 HD for software features
There is a guy on eBay selling a thunderbolt HDN with PTHD12 for $1500, you could buy that and sell the Thunderbolt HDN box for $900, which after you'd have PTHD12 for $600 minus eBay and PayPal fees.
