Default Place to complain about $75.00 PTLE 6.7 Upgrade

I'm getting a little tired of so many threads being hijacked for people to complain about the $75.00 PTLE 6.7 upgrade and the incompatibility with 001 hardware. As a suggestion, perhaps all those complaints can be logged here under this one thread so everyone interested (including Digidesign) can read about how you feel. As for the other threads, they can get back to resolving technical issues and sharing helpful information for PTLE users. I'm just trying to make this forum more useful for myself and others like me. I realize that there are those that feel the need to voice thier frustration about this issue and have every right to do so. I just hope that this will give them a place to do this without adversely affecting the benefits of this forum. Thanks for cooperating.

Dear Digi:

I have been a Pro Tools user for 12 years, and in that time I have never had to pay for an upgade. AMAZING!! Other major software companies charge regularly for yearly upgrades. I have seen what you are offering in the upgrade and it looks WELL worth the $75. I am sending along my credit card details so that I may expedite the processing of my order. MANY THANKS!!

I simply want to know one thing from DigiDesign: Straight up!

Why was PTLE version 6.x free one year after I purchased my DigiOO1 with 5.3.1
and yet, I have to pay for version 6.7 only months after my DigiOO2 upgrade
~and~ an MBox purchase?

Sideline: Part of the reason I went with DigiDesign to begin with was that the dealer told me upgrades during the warranty period was DigiDesign Policy. I had no reason to believe this would change. Like I said before, it's not the money, this is the principle of consistent policy and customer satisfaction. This is enough reason to put my MBox on eBay.

Anyone compare MBox to Spike yet?
I'm curious how it stacks up to the MBox since I still have PTLE on my OO2 for post work.
Imagine, on-board DSP from mackie

BTW... Add yet another gripe thread to the other 3... THANX Dragon

Pro Tools LE 5.3.1 for Windows XP was a free upgrade for all Pro Tools LE 5.1 and 5.1.1 owners. If you purchased a Digi 001 or ToolBox XP system from an authorized Digidesign dealer on or after September 1, 2000, all upgrades from 5.1 through 5.3.1 were free.

Pro Tools LE 6.1 through 6.4 for Windows XP was a free upgrade for anyone that purchased their Windows LE system later than March 31, 2003. So this is actually the first paid upgrade in over a year and a half.

The last paid TDM upgrade was Pro Tools TDM 6.4, free for anyone that purchased a new systme after December 31, 2003. There were more features for TDM users (ADC, etc.) added in 6.4, so it was a paid upgrade for TDM owners, free for LE owners.

Not true, they either never understood the policy, or made it up to make the sale, because that has never been the policy. There has never been any written or unwritten policy regarding free updates. It has always varied with every release, and terms and grace period have always been stated with each release. The warranty included with every product sold states terms for hardware warranty and period of tech support.

The Digi 001 came out in 1999. If you bought the very first 001 when it came out, it would have been possible to pay the $50 upgrade to 5.1 through 5.3.1, and now the $35 upgrade to Pro Tools LE 6.4. A total of $85 for almost 5 years of upgrades. Or worst-case scenario for a 001 owner, you bought it when it first came out, bought the 5.1 upgrade for $50, and bought the PTLE 6.1 to 6.4 upgrade for $75 before it was reduced for 001 owners.

So either $85 or $125 maximum for a 001 owner in 5 years. We think that compares favorably with most companies in the business, but you're certainly entitled to your own opinion.

Thank you for your reply, Digidesign. I do honestly appreciate this finally being addressed.

One error, however, and this can be checked with my account history.

I did receive version 6.x for free as promised by my dealer directly from DigiDesign. The MAC version of 6.x came out 11-1/2 months after I purchased my DigiOO1 and the WindowsXP version 6.x came out a month later. I did receive the Disk, Code and subsequent versions free for my DigiOO1. I have since upgraded to the DigiOO2 Factory through the trade in program and expected the same courtesy upgrade of new PTLE versions for the following year as I have experienced with my DigiOO1 purchase.

Maybe now you can understand my disappointment.

I think that is very reasonable! But, that is also why it seems so unfair right now! Take a look at your above post, the dates, the timeline... and look at the current situation for new users that just bought an LE product just over 1 month ago, does that look fair? $75.00 upgrade for something just over 30 days old? I don't think so, and by the posts on the board lately, a ton of other people don't think so either.

I'm not complaining about spending $75.00 to upgrade my LE system, not one bit. But I would sure be pi$$ed off if I just bought my system! And I'm speaking for those customers.

Think about it...
